Ahhhh....
Maybe God's a nacisisitic being? ... you know how those narcissistic parents are always role playing with their offspring, one kid the "good" favorite, one the "despised" evil, and the others just "lost" or trying to "gain redemption". Really, even the chosen are doomed in that system.
Of course that doesn't really jive with the unconditional love stuff does it? However, narcissism & religion do seem to go hand-in-hand with all that "my way is the only way-for everyone" thinking.
Religion is much to do about culture, is it not? Including Judeo/Christian beliefs. What are we really saying as humans: That we see God as an extension of ourselves or is it just that God is a really bad parent?
Refreshing read:
Maya Baba's writing: God Speaks
Baba describes a vision of primal intelligence developing upward through all things in order of increasing sensitivity until it reaches divine union with itself.
As always, Thanks for the question.

The Catholic Encyclopedia states Bible is Skeptic and Concocted
A. THE FORMATION OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CANON (A.D. 100-220)
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03274a.htm
The idea of a complete and clear-cut canon of the New Testament existing from the beginning, that is from Apostolic times, has no foundation in history. The Canon of the New Testament, like that of the Old, is the result of a development, of a process at once stimulated by disputes with doubters, both within and without the Church, and retarded by certain obscurities and natural hesitations, and which did not reach its final term until the dogmatic definition of the Tridentine Council. ("Canon of the New Testament")
There is a lot of confusion about the earliest existing texts of the Bible. The oldest extant manuscript of the Bible is believed to be the Codex Vaticanus, (preserved in the Vatican Library), which is slightly older than the Codex Sinaiticus (preserved in the British Library), both of which were transcribed in the fourth century.
As for the story of Jesus, there were at least 50 gospels written in the first and second century CE. Four of them (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John) were included in the official canon during the fourth century CE and are found today in every Bible. All of the original copies of the gospels were lost. What we have now are handwritten copies, which are an unknown number of replications removed from the originals.
Rudolf Bultmann, a prominent 20th-century professor of New Testament studies writes about the life of Jesus:
We can now know almost nothing concerning the life and personality of Jesus, since the early Christian sources show no interest in either, are moreover fragmentary and often legendary; and other sources about Jesus do not exist. (Bultmann 8)
Example of Confliction in Bible
II Samuel 8:4 (vs) II Samuel 8:9-10 II Kings 8:26
II Samuel 6:23 Genesis 6:3 John 5:37
John 5:31 I Chronicles 18:4 I Chronicles 18:9-10
II Chronicles 22:2 II Samuel 21:8 Genesis 9:29
John 14:9 John 8:14

People in general are lost. All you have to do is look at the history of the world to see that people in general never came to the understanding that human values are the most important, not material wealth and vanity. So people, being lost, have always looked to someone else to tell them what to do in all aspects of their lives. The bookstores and libraries are overflowing with books on every conceivable subject, including how to think, how to feel and how to live.
People want God to tell them how to do all of these things, but God has already told everyone what to do right from the beginning. But not in books. He's told us by creating laws. If you study how things work, you will know what God's laws are. They're no different than that. If you have an incorrect thought, you get a bad result, correct thought, good result. Wrong action, bad result.
But people don't want to be responsible for their actions, they'd rather pretend that they can get away with things, maybe they can find some system that has loopholes in it so that they can do whatever they want. So that they can be selfish and mean and lust after anything they desire. But if they follow certain rituals that will absolve them of their mistakes. They can run after wealth even tho it's been said that it's easier for a camel to go thru the eye of the needle but they think that they can pick and choose, maybe their particular sect ignores that one, maybe they can construct a system that supports their desires and they can try and ignore the system that's the only system - God's.

The Bible was written to the Jews, right up to the middle of the book of Acts. That is when the Books of the Bible begin to be written to the Church. Example . Ephesians, Corinthians, Colossians . These are all letters written from the apostle Paul to Churches in or around the Mediterranean area. Now, ALL scripture is God breathed(inspired) and can and must be used for ALL of our education and correction, and such. There isn't one verse in the Bible that we can't learn from or better our selves from, when taken in proper context. Read the Bible the right way. And that way is IN CONTEXT ! Who is the author writing to ? What is happening at the present time ? Where is the writings taking place at ? Then apply the lesson to your life and pray earnestly and ask God to reveal the wisdom of the word to you.

Because my dear the bible is not the word for all of us.... other countries have other prophetic writings as well for their land... It is not a demand that we follow his words but a simple guide on how it may be if one were to choose it.
I do not follow the bible and I do not believe that following the words in the bible is the best way in our time....
consider this ... do you read history books to tell you how to live now or do you read them to learn from there mistakes.
I dare say that you would not and hopefully none else is trying to live the way it was in any time ... Ghangis Khan to Hitler, the Pharaohs and even as recent as the events of 9/11
Do not use it as a be all and end all it is just a book designed to report history.
maybe what you should be asking is religion the maker of destruction?

Because that's the history of the religion. And you are where you came from.
If you're American, why does it matter that a few guys got together in Philadelphia to figure out a thing called a 'constitution?" They were all rich, white guys, and didn't ask for anyone else's opinion. Yet here we are, the United States.
The stories are meant to be learning experiences for Christians. You can tell a story about a guy in a place that doesn't remotely relate to you, and you can understand what the message is.
It's meant to be broad.

Because the people who made up the bible were looking for the most judgmental text that they could find.
These worked perfectly.

Yes, and why do certain people think only they have the franchise on how the Bible is interpreted, scripture either belongs to all or it is merely the propaganda tool of a certain self appointed group...now which is it?

This was something that really bothered me when I was a christian. If God really loved everyone why would his word not be given world wide? Its not logical. THINK, people!
