Is it how their paws are structured, giving cats the same ability to safely absorb shock when landing jumps from tall places?

bonus question? are they really massaging you or is that some kind of paw excercise akin to working out on a scratchpost?

It's like your foot - when someone steps on your foot (or even an adult steps on a small child's foot), it doesn't break. Bones in the foot are built especially strong because that's where all the stress is when you (or a cat or any other animal) are walking.

When they do that paw massage thing, it's actually from their kittenhood. That's how they used to massage their mom to get milk. It's just habit and they do it to someone they love!

Isn't that a good thing. ? They are grinding. They do that to their mothers when drinking milk from the mother to enhance circulation. Is your cat is grinding her paw on u take it as a compliment. She loves u.
