Are quotes a recourse for people with nothing important to say? Sometimes but not always. "Brevity is the soul of wit."

Not really. When you have something to say, chances are someone else has had to say the same exact thing, and quoting them just shows you know a little about history.

On the contrary, quotes by famous people reinforce ideas. They're like friends who support you in times of need. You may quote me on this.

To quote (ha ha) Aelius Donatus, "Pereant qui ante nos nostra dixerunt." ("A plague on those who said our remarks before us.")
It's all been said before - and usually better!
