1) Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware SE http://lavasoft.com and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections. All three programs are free.
2) Check that you have a least 10% of your hard drive free. Go to My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Look at the properties. If it has less that 10% free space, you will need to delete some files, or move them off the hard drive and on to a CD or DVD. Start by running the disk cleanup, which will remove temporary and other unneeded files. Go to Start, then All Programs, then System Tools and click the Disk Cleanup icon.
3) Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

It may be the amount that you have stored on it. For instance, do you have hundreds of photos saved? Have you used the 'tools' option (no, not the hammer!) to delete unnecessary files? Maybe you should back up everything that is important onto a disc or one of those flash memory devices and have the hard disc professionally wiped and the whole OS re-installed. I had this done (for other reasons) and my computer is like lightening now

are u using dial up? if u are u gota get the ADSL as its called here which is a thing that speeds up ur internet connection like 10 times but needs payment (of course)
if this doesn't work than i can only think that u hav either
too many programs that starts simultaniously when u start the computer(like msn pops up automatically when i open the computer)
or ur computers been affected by a virus(trojan horse which dramatically slows down all ur connection) so u'll hav to get a anti virus software
free anti virus- http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
if u want a super efficient one i would advise u to get norton antivirus since its the best in the bussiness
o yea and if u hate spending money try google web accelerator(i use it but i duno if it works but it shows it has saved 2.8 hours of my life so i would advise it)
go to google and type google web accelerator it only takes like 3 minutes(for me lol) to download it and for u it should not take that long(i hope)
g luck

You said you ran the delete browser history, and have defragged too. Good, good.
Also perform:
1) Type ctrl-alt-del to bring up Task Manager. It can show you just how much of your computer is being used.
2) Use the "Disk cleanup" function.
3) Use Add/Remove Programs to remove any that you do not use. --Do not remove ANY windows components.
4) Download and install Zonealarm. (its free)
5) Download and install Adaware. (its free too)
6) Scan for viruses.
7) Scan for malware and spyware. (use adaware for this if need be. or Norton, if you have it)
8) --you may need to scan your registry for errors too. [regcure can help, but you have to buy it]
9) Do disk frag again.
Lastly:
a) Use cable modem.
b) Make sure you have at least 1GB of RAM. (2 is better)

Do you have lots of taskbar icon ?? (The icons beside the time ) If you have alot, then you could go to run.. Type in
msconfig
Then a box would appear, Select the Startup Tab, untick all the boxes. Press Ok and restart PC When prompted.. This will load up to ur dektop screen fast...
Sounds like you have limited RAM space though.
Also intsall Anti-spywares and anti-virus scan and scan thru ur PC.... Spywares will slow down ur pc and eventually kill it

download winpatrol, free version or you can pay for pro.
http://www.winpatrol.com/
it's a good tool, even the free one is perfect, you can see what's starting up, block stuff you dont need loading at startup, check on the things that are running on comp, and generally see what's hogging all your resources. It even keeps an eye out for you so viruses or crazy programmes cant automatically change stuff on your comp.
Also run a virus check.
