when an establishment decides to have karaoke nights, they are really sacrificing a lot of integrity and class

Totally cheesy, completely tacky, and thoroughly awesome. If ever there is a place where cheesy and tacky are OK, it's the karaoke bar. Besides, when everyone is half drunk, they don't care about the cheese-factor anyway, they're just having fun. And it's fun that doesn't hurt anybody (except the occasional pitch-sensitive eardrum) - imagine that!

I see no loss in an establishment's integrity once they decide to offer karaoke - it's not like there's something morally reprehensible about it. It's just goofy good fun and a way for a lot of otherwise buttoned-up stuffed shirts to let their hair down and enjoy life a little more. In a totally cheesy and tacky way, of course. ;-)

Cheesy, tacky and really good fun.

Sure, when a place has karaoke they lose dignity and class, but they gain a whole lot of customers, so in the long run it balances out.

And most of the customers drink more than usual to get the courage to do karaoke, so it really pays off.

But what the heck, even stone cold sober there is just something so fun about watching people sing really badly, with a lot of emotion, in public.

C'mon, ya gotta love that!!!

:-D)))

Best wishes :-)

No, I don't think so. They are going for customers and money. Remember that one man's garbage is another man's treasure. Karaoke is popular and there are FANATICS that will religiously go to places that have Karaoke nights.

I see it as a business idea and bars are in business to make money or at least stay in business. It may not be your kettle of fish but I wouldn't change my opinion of an establishment because of it.

If you want to talk about the fanatics, you've got another bag of fries there. Now there are some strange people.

What does integrity have to do with karaoke? Of course it's cheesy, but it is also a lot of fun. We can't live life so stiff and formal all the time.

I think karaoke brings out the worst singing in people. The more alcohol people have had to drink, the better people think they can sing. AND I AM GUILTY OF THAT, TOO. I remember being with a group of people from the county bar association (lawyers) and trying to sing the Bee Gee's hit "Staying Alive." It was enough to make me the butt of peoples' jokes for years to come.

I would prefer going to a place that has a good band or DJ providing dance music.

Absolutely!
And that is part of the fun of it! Jump right in and be tacky and cheesy for once in your life. Cast your fears of being thought of as a fool to the wind and have fun!

depends. if the people love it, then it's cool. after all, it's the patrons who pay the bill. what's the point of a snooty club that's losing money?

Some people love performing. I take a run for it when they start.
