My 2 year old and 4 year old join us in eating salmon at least once a week. Both have been eating fish (mostly salmon, cod, and a few other white fish) since 15 months. Just about any fish is fine for a 3 year old - just avoid the ones with a lot of bones (choking hazard) and those with suspected high levels of mercury (shark, swordfish. muscle, etc).

We avoid "breaded" fish sticks or pre-processed foods - if kids acquire the taste for healthy food early on, there is no need for unhealthy taste diffusers.

Hope this helps.

My 15 month old has been eating fish for some time. Beware of things like prawns though. Mine loves fish pie made with cod, haddock or similar, and mashed potato and cheese sauce. Fish fingers sometimes won't hurt either! Or fishcakes for that matter - try making them yourself with tinned salmon - yummm!
