With a sound knowledge of the varied chord formations in any fret a guitarist can pick out any type of melody line accompanied by a triad chord. In the 12th fret you have several chord formations, such as E, C, G6, A, Am, and Fm6. Using them chromatically will open more avenues.

By knowing what your doing, if you started out playing guitar correctly you should be able to do this easily, do you hold your thumb in the middle of the back of the neck correctly, (in the MIDDLE OF THE BACK, I can't say that enough, if not you could slow yourself down, if you wrap that thumb around the neck like a lot of guitarist do unless your very good your going to have trouble.) that's biggest problem that I have had with students, they don't want to do it that way, and I tell them later on you'll be sorry, these bad habits will hinder you later on.
