Hi kitten gurus!
My husband and I are first-time kitten owners, and received our new kitties from the rescue org two days ago. They are litter trained and surprisingly well-mannered already. They already come to sleep in my lap. However, I have major problem playing with one of them because I'm not so sure about her intentions. Basically, the yet to be named cat will snuggle on my lap, recognizes my smell, and generally likes me. However, she keeps trying to grab my fingers and bring them toward her mouth. Then I always put her down far away, because I'm afraid that she's trying to bite me. Do kittens bite even when they're not upset? Is it possible that she is just trying to lick me when she pulls my finger to her mouth? She doesn't seem upset while she's doing this and is usually just sitting in my lap when she does this. I always pull my finger away, because I don't want to take a chance with those sharp teeth! Thanks!

it's probably just playing. or it might think your finger is a smaller animal (food). usually they grow out of it. but not anytime soon! the teeth really dont hurt that bad. i used to always let my kitten chew on my fingers, you get used to it lol

It seems your kittens intentions are playful. They lick and chew like real babies. Do NOT use your hand as a toy. When they are small its cute, when the cat is 12 lbs and they nibble its painful. Get a white cotton sock and put a knot in the heel area. Then let them bite on that when you wiggle it and they will have major fun with it. They will grow into it soon. When they are around 1 yr old you can put some catnip in the toe of the sock and that will make them crazy. No catnip for babies.

Kittens will try to NURSE your fingers - they're small and feel like mother cats milk glands (tried another word there, but was starred)
Your Kitten is not trying to bite you - but is feeling stressed and wanted the comfort of nursing.
This is natural - and you should not be repelled by the actions of a little creature, who cannot possible hurt you with their tiny mouths. Later on, cats as they grow like to wrestle - part of their nature to pounce & grab & chew as the great feline hunters that they are. Check out the CAT toys at the pet store, to keep your cats healthy and bouncy -- A bouncey thingey on a string works great! -- provides action and healthy exercise.

my kitty used to do this too. she would lick and bite my finger and then try grooming herself with it. sometimes she just thought my finger was a toy. She stopped when she finally got the hint that it was bad. I would just tap her on the nose and tell her no.. took about two weeks before she stopped.
maybe get a little toy or something that she could paw at on your lap and keep her occupied away from the finger!
best of luck!

Sometime it's just love bites and if you can tell the difference then if the bite is to hard keep a water spay bottle near so you can squirt the lil thing...

it may be trying to play but if it really is that young and does like you she may just be trying to "nurse" on your fingers. i've seen them even try to do that to ear lobes...
