Both western culture and vietnamese and iraqui culture differ, yet people managed to create families and lives together. How many years do you think it will take of occupying iraq until the same flow of u.s. military marrying iraquis occurs?

Also, Korea is teeming w/ orphans left behind by u.s. military fathers, are people noticing mixed iraqui-american children wandering around Iraq yet.

It has to be bound to happen the longer the occupation--I just wonder how long...

A point that you are over looking is that Viet and Iraqi cultures are VERY different. Most of Asia is Buddhist and the people have a tolerance for "affairs of the heart". On the other hand, 99.9% of Iraq is Muslim. The Islamic religion does not tolerate inter-faith marriages. The Koranic solution is to kill those who marry outside of the faith. While I am sure that there are plenty of Iraqi's who don't subscribe to such beliefs, there are more than enough who do.
Concerning multi-cultural children, Korea and Vietnam had rear echelon areas, places where a service man (or woman) could mix and mingle with the local population in relative safety. There is no such place in Iraq. If you venture beyond the wire, you'ld better be with a well armed platoon full of friends.
I, too, read something about a service member marrying an Iraqi woman. I believe that he was courts-marshalled, and she had to go into hiding. I am not sure if she ever made it to the US.
There is no time in the forseable future when Americans will be accepted in Iraq.
Korea and Vietnam where fought to stop communism. Iraq is all about the TRILLIONS of barrels of oil under that country. The person who controls that oil will be one of the most powerful people in the world. The "movers and shaker's" of Iraq don't want us there until one of them ends up as the boss. It's going to be a long war.

In Korea we integrated with the people, we weren't invading, we were defending.
A couple things to get you in the mindset of the differences in Korea Vs Iraq that illustrate why it won't happen:
Military members can't go off base
No Alcohol allowed (no drunken mistakes)
Locals that are allowed on base are watched under close supervision
With Korea we could go off post and mingle with the locals. Iraq no mingeling period.
Plus any Iraqi-US hybrids would be killed and the mother stoned to death. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Such marriages have already happened (well, at least one that I heard about, I assume there's been some others), but I don't think there's been a whole lot of them yet.
