No tipping on take out. You only tip when someone gives you good service. There's no service with takeout.

If you are getting food at a full service restaurant like Apple Bees or Outback or places like that, then it is correct to tip the same amount you would for the meal if you were to get it inside the place. There is a person working on just take-out orders. They are doing just as much work as a server does except that they are going to your car to hand you an order rather than coming to a table. They are putting in your ticket, plating your food, making sure everything is right, and dealing with anything that happens to be incorrect with the food due to the kitchen's fault. I work at a place that does just that, and it makes me upset that people don't realize how much work someone that does take out orders is putting into it. Think of your car as your table and the person bringing you your food as your server and go from there. It's customary to give about 15-20% in these types of places. If you are talking about a fast food place, don't tip unless it is a place like Sonic or Bumpers where there is a car hop coming to your car. It is customary to tip 10-15% in that case.

I don't tip take out. For what? Handing me a bag of food and telling me to leave, that is no reason to tip. I tip 15%+ if it is special, sometimes less if they have an attitude or get my order wrong.
