It does disturb me that people are reporting others for their freedom of speech.
Distasteful and just that, but there is a right to free speech and I think the censors are worse than the biggots, religious zealots, and people who use foul language.
Isn't the whole process solicitous then?
Don't we ask others to engage with us in discussion or for their opinions?
That doesn't make sense to me.
Those "reporters" are power mongers, catty, and retaliatory.
Grow up.

I am a Wiccan. I don't feel that there's ANYTHING wrong with someone asking for prayers at all. I have responded to the prayer request AND have offered up prayers to Goddess for the purposes that were requested. If it's a prayer for a selfish reason I don't bother, but the ONES that I have responded to in a positive fashion were genuine, as far as one could tell. And they were offered up Willingly and gladly.
I have even seen Atheists offer good wishes for those people. We all realize that Athiests don't "pray" but even a good wish is offering up SOMETHING, and providing support for the purpose that the request is about.
In going back through my "Internet History" I haven't found that ANY of those prayer requests were deleted or taken off of "Answers" so perhaps the ones that YOU are reffering to were deleted for other reasons not related to just being prayer requests.
I, personally, do not see a prayer request as being the SAME as a SPAM request for joining a particular site or asking for money or services from the community. I see it as asking for people to lend their spiritual support and whether or not someone wishes to GIVE that support causes no one any harm at all.
Brightest Blessings,

Speaking as a resident of middle England, the right to free speech, especially for Christians, is slowly being eroded not only in the UK but in Europe. You cannot say what you like in public about your religious views on certain ethnic groups or gender issues. At the moment a teenage girl is awaiting a high court judgment about her human right to wear a chastity ring in school - which was banned by the school. They have not publicly asked for prayer, it has not been necessary. You can be sure that much is being done. I don't mind people asking for prayer but I would like to know exactly what I am praying for.

I'm not sure but i'm starting to think that those that manage this might be volunteers ? maybe not a really diverse group ? makes a few bad judgement calls.
honestly, i can't see why a request for prayer would be sensored . there are "questions" that have to do with asking for" help" with deciding this or that , etc. you can ask someone to find a diet for you and post it. seems you could ask for prayer "help" if you want it and if both the asker and answerer are in agreement with it , i can't comprehend what yahoo would have a problem with. Where is it appropriate to ask ? maybe the rules need to be changed ? maybe escalate the matter up the chain if needed ??

I am not christian, but honestly, people, whoever feels that a prayer request is spam or a solicitation should delete every question on this site, because isn't a question a SOLICITATION for an answer?? Jeez.... if you are offended by something as simple as a prayer request, you shouldn't be in the religion and spirituality area, for sure.

I liked GAWDO's answer. Way to go!
Now my answer.
I had an answer to an Atheist's question removed as a violation of ethics. Any question is a "Solicitation for an Answer". You don't have to get money or donations for it to be considered a solicitation. You can, solicit an answer. The word just means to ask for. I think any question or answer is perfectly fine as long as they are your own personal opinion, and you do not personally put that person down for asking the question, (ie: call them stupid or cuss them in any way) besides, any answer is supposed to be an opinion and is not always the ultimate truth for everybody.

There is A LOT of power in prayer, I don't think those people should get reported. If you feel that more people praying for a love one to get better or something else positive, then shame on those who reported them. There are many different religious institutes that take prayer request, and they pray all day. It doesn't matter your religion if you pray for someone they receive it just the same.

Bull, asking for a prayer is like asking a question in the same sense that asking somebody to donate to a cause is. Sure, you can phrase the request as a question but the best answer and the worst answer added exactly the same to the distribution of knowledge - exactly nothing. This is a place to ask questions and learn things. You learn nothing from a prayer request or a prayer grant.
Oh, and FWIW, I don't report prayer requests - I think the stream of questions is monitored and the monitors remove them on their own.
