it's never too late. 15 is a good age to start. start with a 12 gauge until u get good with it then move on to a rifle.but of course the most important thing is safety. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT!!!

It is never to late to start liking hunting. Just take your safety course and get a license. Mom a nature freak? Shouldn't be a problem. When you hunt, you have a lot of responsibility. Those responsibilities include being safe with the weapon, and choosing whether or not to take the shot on the animal and identifying your target is the most important. A good weapon to start off with is a .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester, or the great old 30-06 Springfield. Best of luck to you and your decision. And remember, hunting is not just about killing that big doe or buck, it is about appreciating what is around you and enjoying nature.

No it is not too late. That is the perfect age you are young and still have plenty of time to devote to it. At 15 you will have more patience than you did when you were younger and will probably be better at it. Hunting is very challenging and lets you get close to nature. There is nothing that gives you more of an addrenalin rush than A big buck walking under your tree stand or a big black bear getting in to bow range. Try it once you do you will be hooked for life. If you are going to hunt alone be careful at 15 and not much hunting experience because it can be dangerous in some areas. I hunted reguarly alone when I was 15 but I started hunting squirrels when I was 6.

No I didn't start until I was 16 and I love it! I hunted with an uncle of mine when i first started just to learn the basics all the way to the tricks.
I love fishing, and hunting is even better then fishing and now I'm even starting to get into trapping.
I think that your never too old to learn something like hunting. As for your Mom there will always be somebody telling you it's wrong, but just try to explain the benefits you are doing for the environment, if people didn't hunt, there would be an over population of wildlife, when there's an over population it leads to disease, which then effects all wildlife not just the kind your hunting.
Good Luck!

Hi hon, I'm a mom, I'm a nature freak. I also really enjoy hunting and fishing. For me, it's not about "the kill", it's being one with nature, the earth, the sky. And it's never too late to start liking it, you obviously are interested in taking it up, I say go for it! Hunting is a sport, but also an art, or skill, acquired with (first off) safety classes, practice, and lots of patience. Good luck, and always remember, a successful hunt is way more rewarding than the actual kill.

Starting to hunt is never to late... I didn't start hunting until i was at least 24 or 25. For the last 5 years I have became quite the aviid and surpassed my family members, on there skill level.. For the first weapon i would suggest a marlin 30/30. Or a savage 110 scoped 30-06.

For you or anyone else just to think about 1st time hunting is also necessary to know the rules. Safety must be practiced and thought about all the time you are hunting. So sign up for a safety hunting class. I think some staes actually require this to get your liscence. Always safety 1st.. Deer, ducks, squirrels, is boring cause there is a lot of wait in place time in the woods. But if you are in a good place and have patience...?
Go with a 30 30 carbine lever action rifle or 12 guage with slugs. Lots of target practice on a shooting range and remember other hunters will be in the woods that you hunt in and you may never even know they are there. Know a buddy to hunt with cause you can depend on each other if you get lost .

I started at 4 years of age with a 22.

For a 15 year old I would say the same thing as I would to a 30 year old starting hunting.

- Start hunting whatever is legal for you with whatever type of gun you want.

The only issue might be the gun weight/recoil issue which if too excessive may effect a 15 year a little if he or she is underdeveloped. You can test these by using the gun at the range or on targets first.

Its never to late. I began at the age of 12 with my Father teaching me... Sign up for a Hunter Safety Course... I suggest the following Rifle and Shotgun> 20 Gauge and 22 long rifle. Eventually purchase a 30-30 caliber or 30-06 caliber for Deer, Bear, Elk.... If possible buy your guns used and save $$$$$ I buy all my firearms used... I have 22 > Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols, and revolvers... No regrets here and I saved a lot of $$$$$. Let the other guy pay the new price... I prefer the used price......

Dude, You are right on time to start it's the best time! I started when I was 16 for big game and 14 for small game. Don't listen to all of the negativity on this yahoo thing about hunting they are the people that have never experienced harvesting their own meat, and don't seem to have a passion for the great outdoors, they are all close minded. So take a hunting saftey course and head on out there!! Have fun!!

people will tell you that your horrible for killing innocent animals but what they dont realize is that taking (or harvesting) animals is apart of life. you can even donate your kills to feed the hungry through hunters for the hungry organization (when was the last time a nay sayer did anything like that). As long as you are using every part of it and taking ethical shots and your enjoying this countries great outdoors then your doing nothing wrong. 15 is a perfect age to start. Most hunters are the ones preserving the outdoors anyways(pheasants forever etc.) good luck!
PS 22 is a good starter gun check your local hunting laws some states only allow shotguns
