If I ran a 5:49 this year in track for m school (8th grade) and that didnt take too much training for me, what do you think I can be running next year in high school?(I never even really tried running until this year, in 7th grade I sucked, I couldn't even run a 6 minute mile.) I'm also running croass country next year, do you think I can get down below 5 minutes next year in track season?

im in eight grade too.ive realized getting a good mile time depends on how good a pace u set urself for each lap...kno ur times u want for each lap bfor the race,,its very helpful...at the beginning of my seventh grade year i was running a 5:53, by the end i was at a 5:19 because i kept better paces.im around a 5:02 right now. i reccomend u keep a good diet, no sugars, no pop and saturated fat etc., and start out by runnin about 2-3 miles a day, 5 days a wk,then gradually increase.make sure u dont over work urself though, at our age were still growing. but if u keep the good diet and running schedule, ur times will decrease drammatically. If ur at a 5:49 right now, try running in between 1:20 and 1:25 each lap, not any slower, and not any faster, you will get arouind a 5:30 to start, when ur comfortable with that lower ur lap times

Once you get to a high level of performance it gets harder and harder to improve. Look how long it took to break a 4 minute mile (by the way the world record is 3:43 so other comment is not correct). A 5:49 is pretty good. With training it will improve, but breaking 5 would be very good. My best was a 5:17. My son could run a 4:27 or so, but that took a lot of training.

as quickly as you get to a extreme factor of regular overall performance it gets extra good and extra good to develop. seem how long it took to break a 4 minute mile (via utilising procedures the international record is 3:40 3 so distinctive assertion isn't the suited determination). A 5:40 9 is extremely good. With coaching it is going to develop, yet breaking 5 must be terrific. My suited became a 5:17. My son could run a 4:27 or so, yet that took assorted education.

i think my 8th grade year i ran about the same time and went down to a 5:26 and i took the fall off but ran indoor track that winter....then after i quit running i was still at a 5:38.....if your run cross country you might be able to get under 5 but it could be difficult
