I can understand being offended by a racist remark (you don't choose your race and racists are idiots), but being "offended" becuase someone mocks your chosen beleifs? Isn't it just hiding from the argument?

The reason people get offended about religion is because they are afraid that they can't defend their beliefs. It is easier to get mad and storm off then to say "I don't know" or to seriously examine the facts. People often are afraid that if they listen to the argument being given they will be faced with a question they can't answer and will look dumb, or that they will realize they are wrong and will have to change. Getting mad and making it the questioner's fault is easier than changing themselves.

In the movie "The Matrix" there was a line about "Denial is the most predictable human emotion". This was when Neo had made it to the Source, and found out he had been duped all along.

I think it's the same with religion. People don't even want to consider the possibility that they have been duped, so they automatically go into denial mode. I know this is the case because I used to be the same way, back when I was a Mormon. Finding out the truth was a HUGE letdown, and something that I TRULY DID NOT WANT TO BELIEVE. So for all those years, I defended the religion and was in denial about any alternatives.

What argument? Mockery is not a question. In fact it shows the cowardice of the one doing the mocking instead of being able to stand up to genuine debate.

yes, or even from the potencial problem. But they just dont understand, there fore they are mocking. or even the people in religion also sometimes to offend by their views about belief. If we talk the cycle of karma and action and reaction., what you do what you got. So both needed to be silent and learn about them self.

If it is really an argument, then it should not be mocking. Right?

I mean, if you know enough to question MY faith and beliefs, you should be able to pose your questions in a manner that does not mock the belief. Otherwise, you are just some simpleton who does not know enough to question it.
You will find this true for many things in life.

Offended is not what I think it is ........I as a believer am saddened by the way some choose to portray the Lord..If you love someone...and someone else makes a derogatory remark against them would this not hurt you as well....?

People defend things that they care about, whether that is their family, their property, or their beliefs. If you threaten my child you risk a serious and unpleasant response...possibly a VERY unpleasant one. If you seem to be threatening or ridiculing my beliefs I will also be upset. I more than likely won't physically hurt you, but I will still have a perfectly normal human emotional response nonetheless.

Hope this helps!

i reckon it is because many religious people have their identity tied up with believing a certain thing. For example they thing that if they don't lie then that will make them good enough to get into heaven and then they spend their whole life trying not to lie. Then when someone challenges that belief they get all agitated because that is what they have based their life on...so they fight and defend it to the end and can't bear to hear any other truth.

What you are doing is a hate crime in the United States.

I suppose by posting questions on Yahoo Answers in the USA you will avoid being labeled insane and criminal under UK law, although I thought it applied there, too.

Apparently, people who hate simply cannot help themselves.

God, however, works in mysterious ways. Soon you will have run out of your quota of hate-filled queries to post for the day.

Blessings to you and your lovely family. I hope venting your spleen online keeps them safe from your vicious tongue.

No. God is above all worldly things. It is as if you insulting the path to Him.

I don't think most ppl can get it since we are living in a post-honor world.
