when buying a dvd monitor for the dash, do the inches refer to the diagonal, horizontal or vertical measure of the screen?

When buy a tv the inches like 7" or 6" or 6.5" screen means Horizontal. Its all about the Width.

When referring to inches on a TV its the width (horizontal).

All screen nowadays are measured diagonally. Doesn't matter how big or small it is. Even some video mp3 player screens are measured this way. Also look at the aspect (side to side) ratio to make sure your movies or whatever your wathcing matches it to get most out of your screen.
