No film. You have a card that save the pictures, similar to a flash drive. The larger the MB, the more pictures you can take. They do need batteries. Open the lens cover, turn it on and take the picture. Many you do push the button half way to focus and then push down to take a picture. Mine do this, but, I can just push the button down all the way and it work, you just need to not move as it will focus and then take the picture. Many make the mistake of thinking it like a 35 mm Camera and may move it before it actually take the picture. Then your picture is blurred.
Most have software to install on your computer and you connect the cable from the camera to the computer. Turn on the Camera and the software will launch and download your pictures to the computer.
Remember, most have different Pixel settings, you will learn. Mine have .3mb, 1mb and 2mb.
The higher the pixel setting the more clear the picture if you make it large.
I can take a picture on .3mb and it make a good 4x5 picture on a paper. On 2mb I can make a 8x10 and it look good.

nope, just a flash card. Different cameras take different formats. some digi cameras have internal memory. Common types of memory are SD CF Memorystick xD. Your camera will say what it uses.
