it's great for the game and obviously great for phil, the only bad thing about it is that he'll use it to berate players until doyle or johnny ties him...i can see it now "don't you know who i am?! i have more bracelets than anyone in history!"

in all seriousness, it's an amazing accomplishment and i congratulate phil on that...it's truly incredible that one person could be so dominant in tournament play at one game(hold'em, given that all his bracelets are in that game), even in today's age with monster fields...however, i think that to a certain degree it damages what he accomplished because chan and doyle have bracelets in numerous games, while phil has never figured out a way to win in other disciplines of the game...i'm not trying to take away from what he did, but i just feel like for him to truly be considered the best player ever(which is how he wants to be remembered) he will need to win a bracelet in a different game

bottom line is that hellmuth is probably the best tournament hold'em player in the history of the game, but his behavior will likely tarnish his legacy some

I have to say that it is a huge deal for sure. Phil is not over-rated at all, to be able to get through these huge fields is a true testement of how good phil really is. Now the big knock is that phil won all his hardware in hold em, This is true, but he has had many other cashes in other events, as well as some final tables in omaha, and seven card stud. So he can play the other games at a high level as well as in no limit.

It certainly didn't hurt most "pros" that the tournaments were so much smaller many in the old days. It definitely aided the ability to win numerous bracelets.

What happened to Phil Ivey?

I think that despite Phil's ego and annoying behavior it is a great accomplishment. It answers his critics who claim that most of his bracelets were won in the 'old days' when only a handful of pros showed up for tournaments.

I look forward to seeing it on TV.
