I have read many articles saying parrotlets have LARGE appitites and they can eat up to a cup or two of bird fooI was excited that I would be able to feed pellets without protest from the bird.

I'm not sure how much parrotlets normally eat.

They're considered rather energetic birds so it may be that they do have large apetites to accomodate that energy.

Parrotlets are tiny parrots like pacific parotlet or lovebird.

Parrotlets are like any other parrot in that they like a variety of food and that they have to be taught to eat them. A pelleted diet supplimented with fresh fruits and vegetables and the occasional treats of whole wheat pastas and breads is the best way to go. Think of it as: if it is healthy for you to eat (e.g. not Mc Donalds or junk food), than it is fine for your parrotlets. If your birds are very bonded to you than it is easy to make them try new thing buy you eating it first. I feed my parrots a base diet of Harrisons and Roudybush pellets with the colorful Zoopreme fruity ones for fun. I usually give them mash or birdy bread which I make in the mornings as a treat. I then put fresh vegetables in their cages and toys so they have fun tearing them up (and hopefully eating some too). Birds can sometimes be like little kids when it comes to veggies:)

You can also google or yahoo search "parrotlet diet" or "parrot food" or "parrot recipies" if you feel like doing a little cooking.

A parrotlett is a true parrot, it just happens to be the smalles w/a huge appetite. They need more than pellets though...they need fruits, veggies, eggs, pastas, millet, oats & groats....no avocado.... but you should definitely not have a problem feeding them....the ones that i work with accually beg for my luch!

They love millet! Fresh corn on the cob, apples, and peas. Mine also love bread. I feed mine Zupreem fruit parakeet pellets.

I hope that helps answer your question. If you have any others, I could try and answer them.
