Well your friend may catch some grief from the adjuster on it b/c your friend is not supposed to be driving a vehicle that's not insured so they'll have to suck it up....but it also depends on the state your friend is whether or not he'll collect a dime; otherwise they will have their car repaired and rental car charges paid, but AAA will not pay for insurance on the rental b/c that is not what they are legally required to provide---your friend has to pay this out of pocket. B/C of his/her irresponsibility they may not be able to collect a penny. As for the state....H U G E fine for driving without insurance and H U G E fine for not having the car registered and your friend is responsible for pay both of them and not AAA.

In order to get a definitive answer you need to tell us what state the accident happened. You might want to edit your post and tell us what state is involved.
In the vast majority of the state not having insurance will not keep you from collecting from the at-fault persons insurance. So the odds are in your friends favor.
I think your friend is going to have an easier time collecting from the other company than he is dealing with the state. While insurance is not required in all states, registering your vehicles is required.
If he is in a state that requires insurance he can expect a hefty fine and possibly losing his license, if he has one. Plus a some kind of fine for not registering the car.
If insurance is not required in his state then he faces a fine for not registering the car.
Do yourself a favor and don't get into a car this guy until he gets insurance and some responsibility.

The other individual (or his insurance company) may have to pay for repairs but your friend may face a large fine or even go to jail for driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle. It's AGAINST THE LAW. Were the police called out to the scene? Was an accident report filed?

Well, the other insurance MAY pay, but, considering your friend was driving illegally, it is pretty tough to force it if they decline the claim. It can be argued that the accident would never have happened if your friend was not in the process of performing an illegal act. It isn't a big problem, it is a big lesson. I presume your friend has also been ticketed for no registration and no ticket, as well as whatever traffic infraction he may have committed. Now he has trouble getting decent price insurance, he should buy a bus pass.

The insurance company is supposed to pay for your fault IF you caused the accident, but it wasn't your fault.
The other insurance company may try and confuse you (like the nice lady above) but who ever is at fault should pay.
Now you have a complication in that you did not even have registration. They should still pay, but they may resist knowing people will back down. In this case it is best to get a lawyer and file a law suit.

Yes you need to tell them. Most policies have a clause where you need to notify your insurer of any accidents where the other party claims or not. If you tell your insurer and the other person doesn't claim then there is no issue. Is you don't tell them and she does the insurance company can make your life difficult. Best to own up and tell them.

He's gonig to get a big fine for driving without insurance and registration. He may also lose his license until he can provide proof of an insured, registered vehicle. If his car wasn't impounded, he's lucky.

Even though it was the other persons fault they are going to get off scott free with hitting him because he has no insurance. That is why it is necessary to have it. He can make as many calls to their insurance company he wants to their insurance is not going to pay for it. He cant take them to court because he has no insurance so hes basically fucced. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Wow that was smart of him. What if someone ran a stoplight and had hit his car? And that person's 3 children were ejected from the vehicle and killed? What if that person then told the police he ran the stop light? What if they got a lawyer and sued him for millions of dollars? What if he had his wages garnished and property taken? What a selfish thing for him to do. he should be ashamed.
To answer your question.. it depends on the state. Some states your vehicle driver will automatically be found at fault. Others (unfortunately) the other driver will be responsible.
I hope he learned your lesson. This makes me very sad for all the innocent drivers on the road.
