Byderule has provided an excellent list of ideas, lots of simple things that everyone can do.

One thing you might wish to consider, and perhaps get your family involved with, is the idea of carbon offsetting. This means that you calculate your total carbon emissions (online calculators will do it for you) and then you take steps to offset against this. One of the most popular methods is by planting trees. Trees are great for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Not only that but they're ideal habitats for all kinds of wildlife and they look good as well.

Tree planting works best if you live in a hot climate, if you do then you can plants some trees in your garden or neighbourhood. If you live in a cold climate it's better to plant the trees elsewhere, perhaps in a relatives garden. There are companies that will plant trees on your behalf but it costs more than doing it yourself.

There's some companies listed here http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/combat.html#5

Its wonderful to see a fellow human being interested in protecting the environment. I appreciate your interest to work for the noble cause. Options are aplenty carbon monoxide is the major reason for global warming. Automobiles are the main cause for carbon monoxide emission into the environment so one thing that can help reduce emission is to ban all vehicles that use petrol and diesel but thats highly impossible and so i wud suggest u make use of the public transport services like the bus and the trains. This would cut down on pollution as lesser number of automobiles equals lesser pollution and so lesser carbon monoxide. Don't use your car unless absolutely necessary (like on a family outing). Another thing you can do to cut pollution is to use a bike for short trips. I not only keeps the environment healthy but also keep u healthy with all the exercise on a bike. Apart from this , dont waste thing u can still use. Avoid items containing CFC( Chloro Flouro Carbon) like most sprays. Use sprays with no CFC( such sprays are available in the market). Wish you all the best in your efforts in protecting the environment!

Contribute to that company building a giant space screen to reduce the warmth from the sun.

Global Warming is a myth. The planet goes through Glacial periods (Ice Ages) and Interglacial periods between those Ice Ages. That means that we are getting warmer because the planet has done so before and will cool again, then warm again.

Walk or car pool instead of driving alone- reduces car emissions

Change your light bulbs to Compact Florescent Bulbs- Saves Energy

Pick up trash you see on the ground-cleaner earth

Recycle-saves precious materials

Read on line news and other periodicals-saves paper, which saves trees, which clean our air

Choose to do your bills on line versus snail mail-saves paper

Wash your clothes on cold water and line dry them outside-save energy

By a hybrid car-saves on emission and preserves fuel

Turn off lights when not in use-saves energy

Unplug unused electrical items-even when not turned on, they still suck up a small amount of power. This will also help you save money on your electricity bill as well as enhance fire safety.

Use ceiling fans instead of A/C-saves energy and money

Use a laptop versus a desktop computer-desktops use less energy

Plant trees-the trees soak up CO2 and give back clean oxygen.

Hope these tips help!
