I used to be a runner in high school. Three years later I have been exercising off and on, but I don't really feel like I am back in shape yet. (I don't mean that I don't look slim enough, I mean that I can't do cardio at a very intense level). I have noticed that I don't breathe hard when climbing up stairs anymore, but I don't feel like I am working hard enough and my heart rate gets too high too quickly. How long does it take when doing 30-60 minutes of cardio a day to get "back into shape?"

I work out intensely enough to get my heartrate into the cardio range, but no higher than it's supposed to be. I just feel like I'm getting there too quickly.

There's really no way to tell. You just have to be patient. I get more high-winded than usual on the stationary bike than I usually do. I use to go 2 hours on the bike, but now my heart gets up to higher heartrate quicker than usual and I can only do it consistently for about 10 minutes.

But I have a different bike now than I did before. The previous bike wasn't as intense as the one I have now. I set the the intensity pretty high therefore my heartrate hits the top of my range quicker and typically goes over that number.

And are you adding strength training to your workout. Cardio & some type of conditioning exercise is good to do. Cardio burns the system and improves your cardiovascular system while the conditioning exercise keeps your toned and moreso what you're looking for.

My best advice is that you work hard and perform very well in practice... In addition, what you Gould be doing this (and every) offseason is to eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either, jogging or going for a long run every day.. If you do these things you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly increase your chances of becoming a successful, top notch high school football player, who may go on to play college ball.... Good luck....

Depends on how many calories you take off your eating plan. Well if you need 2k calories to sustain your weight, and you eat less than the required amount, you will lose weight-now by weight that means fat and/or muscle. So 500ish off what you need a day will = roughly a pound a week. That's a safe amount. If you can do the calculations with a pound or two a week then you can figure it out since you didn't mention your weight and what you want to be. Good luck and don't give up :). (readng a book about this from the book store is very helpfull too)

It depends how intense your workouts are. I would say that about 2 weeks of doing cardio every day would do it. But you can't stop b/c then you'll be out of shape again.

it takes three times as long to get back into shape as it did to lose it. So you are in for a long work out phase. The danger is in pushing too hard to try to speed things up, not a good idea, people, young people, have died trying that. Pace yourself and keep at it.
