Iam planning to buy a new car and after investigating I have shorlisted
these models.I like VW- Jetta TDI because it is a german car with a Diesel engine. My worry with this is will it make big sound as its diesel and how good will it be.Then Honda Accord I love the look of it and performance as you know we cant complain on it.Disadvantages is that its a luxury car and need a Premium Petrol,so confused on it.Then Subaru,it is a All wheel drive and has highest safety rating.Disadvantages is will use more petrol bcoz if it.So now you guys can you please choose me decide on these cars as am totally confused as which one to choose. All have good and bad so please need your best suggestion before I make a decision. Thanks for ur patience in reading and replying.

First off I think you should forget about VW TDI. It is often hard finding diesel gas. If you are traveling long distance, sometime you may find it hard to find diesel in a new town.

The Honda accord is not a "luxury" car. I used own one and I am pretty sure it uses regular gas. Please double check. If this is your only problem, then it is not a problem. :-)

The Subaru all wheel drives are only really useful in snowy areas. I live here in NYC and I drive a Honda Civic and Audi A4 (all wheel drive). There's only about 2 or 3 times a year when I HAVE to drive the Audi because of snow. Unless you got lots of mud road, of course. But boy let me tell you, that AWD is super. It could even clime a 30 degree ramp (unplowed with 8 inches of snow).

So do you have lots of snow?

Somebody below wrote that AWD is safer. NO! You do not anything extra (in terms of safety) with AWD. You get that from ABS brakes. In fact few winters back, local news station did a story that too many people think that their SUV with AWD is some how safer. They driver faster in snow in SUV causing more accidents. As the reporter was saying this, a SUV spun out behind her (accross the street) and hit a pole.

New diesels do not make the noises that the older models do but a VW jetta is not all its cracked up to be, its too expensive up front and repair costs are high, also diesel fuel is not any cheaper than unleaded. The Subaru is an Ok car but a friend of mine has one and its the most expensive of the bunch to repair. The Honda Accord is your best choice as it is extremley reliable has great fuel mileage for a sedan and if Im not mistaken you do not have to run premium fuel in it as you stated.

Good Luck

Well I have an 06 Honda Civic lx coupe and I love it! Very reliable, Honda's are known for this and they get very good resale value because of it. No security system, but it has an immoblizer system and an anti theft alarm on the stereo. Meaning, the keys have chips in them and if someone tries to force the ignition to start the car with something other than the keys (like a screwdriver etc.) it'll start but it'll shut off the fuel and they won't get very far at all. Not sure how the thing on the radio works... Also, the stereo system is perfect for my needs but it's definitely not the best out there. The iPod connection you can get is also pretty bad, it sounds awful. Honda tells me it has more to do with the iPod than the car but I don't know. The bucket seats can be uncomfortable after a few hours in them, but after you wear them in they're a lot more comfortable. You should test drive one and see what you think... The Civic Sedan is safer that the coupe as far as crash test ratings (5 frontal, 4 side versus 5 frontal , 3 side) and comes with standard side/frontal/curtain airbags. Edit: I forgot, it's estimated MPG ratings are 30 city 40 highway and I usually average 33/34 mpg with a 60/40 city highway mix I've heard VW's tend to have a lot of electrical issues and I don't like the look of newer subrarus (what with the snout and all) but to each their own. Good Luck!

good day :D
which part of Australia are you from ? im from brisbane :D
very good choices you've got there:)
i've had a lot of cars, i simply can not live with a same car for more than 6 months.....its some sort of illness i tell ya.......
to me the most important thing about a car is its reliability, nothing worse than having a car like having a very expensive girlfriend,1000 bucks for the melted head gasket, 700 for a warped break disc...etc, it happened to me a lot until i've gone japanese all the way
so you've done well, choosing between the Germans and the Japanese.
as far as i know VW makes very good diesel engine if not the best (and they own Audi too and Audi R10 won le-man 24 hours race with a V10 diesel, so how good would it be ? oh believe me vw's diesel is very good but here comes the cons, its german !! its VW !! its BORING !!
but on the other hand honda is one of the best engine makers in the world when it comes to performence and refinement. they had made 1 millon of its VTEC Unit for their Accord,Civic, S2000, NSX etc and NOT ONE had ever gone wrong.... but..always a but
Its A front wheel drive ,dont know about you i cant live with a luxury car which i payed Premium price and uses Premium Petrol knowing its a front wheel drive because it saves cost its cheaper to build then a rear wheel drive platform what kind of luxury car is that ? i might as well bought a hachback if i wanted a front wheel drive.
well that leaves us with the subaru , the award winning boxer engine ,the proven reliability , the rally winning 4 wheel drive system(4 wheel drive or All wheel drive as subaru calls them, its not only for keep you safe in the snow you know,it keeps you safe in the wet as well ) and the liberty ( not sure its the model you were thinking of buying ) has the looks that grows on you
go onnn buy the liberty ,you will not be disappointed i promise ya , because i've bought one lol !!! great fun to drive ,safe ,reliable ,just as luxury as honda, they drink bit petrol so what , compare to the crapy holdnen and doggie ford falcon ,its more like zipping petrol !!
but anyway if petrol is really your conceren , Honda Accord makes a great 2nd choice, just my 2 cents :)
-----------------------------------------------------------
TO THE DUDE SAYS ALL WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT SAFER!!
DO YOU EVEN KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CARS ?
do me a favor ? drive through a bend with either oil patch or ice patch or black ice (what ever you call it) on the road and with both rear wheel drive and a AWD car ,then you'll see what i mean, and dont even compare SUV's 4 wheel drive to Subaru's,Misubishi's and Audi's 4 wheel drive system, people just ganna laugh at ya

I would def. go with the VW jetta out of those choices jetta's are cute and roomy, yet sporty at the same time. The new diesels do not make a loud noise at all...and it will last you a lot longer than the other two...trust me A LOT. and as far towns not having diesel pumps...i live in a small town and nothing but small towns surrond mine.,..and they all have diesel pumps..but yes if i were you i would totally go with the jetta......they are so cute and fun!

...the accord would be my second choice though.

subaru's are crap..my mom bought a brand new one and it broke within the first month..she had to order a new spark plug for it and transmission..and they were NOT cheap...subaru parts are really expensive.

The honda accord. My dad has one and its great. I dont know how it is in australia but in the United States the accord takes regular fuel. VW is one of the least reliable companies therefore i would definitely not buy a VW. JUst because you dont have snow doesnt meen you shouldnt get a subaru. Subarus are fun to drive and handle better because of the all wheel drive. Also if it rains all wheel drive help you maintain fraction.

If i were buying a car i would buy it in this order

1)Honda accord- I'd wait untill teh new model comes out in the U.S in 08
2) Subaru

3)VW

VW all the way! I have a 98 New Beetle, and she's wonderful.
They also make those in diesel, BTW. Awesome MPG. Awesome safety rating too! And it just 'feels' so solid for a smaller-sized car. VW has a galvanized steel body, way more durable than the other two, were you to come in contact with a stray kangaroo ;)
I know of quite a few ppl. in Australia who have them. Just check out the forum below.

How about TOYOTA or NISSAN as well or even AUDI! TOYOTA wil be the easiest to keep and is forgiving to pople that knwo NOTHING about how to care for a car! European cars are usualy MUCH SAFER as they use a different tuype of steel and technology for crash issues! They MUST drive 140 MPH and be SAFE about it! HONDAS are typically great until around 140k miles where issues show up, and their parts are NOT much cheaper than vW or AUDI parts are! I would put HONDA on the bottom as FUJITSU INDISTRIES makes a GREAT and superior car! happy hunting! BYE NOW!

I would go with the Jetta. The Diesel engine is not that loud and it will last a lot longer than the other 2. it should have a better warranty as well.

I would go for the Subaru it gets decent milage nd the safety of their allwheel drive is unbeatable in a small car, plus it is designed to go off road if necessary, a real plus for me with camping - I am planning on getting an Outback
