I was arrested in 2004 for possession of stolen property, I was released later that day. I served 45 days community service. I completed probation and paid all fees. I later had my case and plea dismissed(expunged). Just wondering if this will stop me from becoming a correctional officer?

I was 21 at the time. My record is clear as of now getting the expungment. I was told when I got the expungment that I would still have to notify government officials or any law enforcement of my arrest but not any other type of normal job.

If you were a juvenile in 2004, your record is probably expunged; in other words, erased or sealed and is clean. If you were of legal age, you might possibly be disqualified if the Department demands that you have a clean record, and they do check those things. Whatever you do, be honest about it if they ask, because if they find out you've tried to conceal anything, then you've definitely been screwed. They might make an exception for honesty, or if you were a juvenile at the time, but it's hard to say what the laws are in California, because I'm not from there. Take a chance. If you lose out, then try something else. But always be up front, because lies or concealment can come back to haunt you. Good luck!

Another person's criminal record should not influence your opportunity for employment. It is your background they are concerned with determining. Did you abet your relative's crime? If not, then it is irrelevant.

No. It will not. Good luck! Felons can be guards in prison after so many years.
