I swim a lot in the summer and today when I came inside I noticed the part of my hair was sore and red. It isn't really painful, just a little sore and annoying. How can I make it feel better and not get burned again?

Pure essential lavender oil [get it at health food stores] will immediately take the "sting" out of any burn, from the sun, stove, oven, etc. To prevent further damage and skin cancer!! since you're a swimmer use a waterproof sunscreen on your scalp before leaving the house - reapply as recommended depending on how much time you spend in the water - trust me - you don't want skin cancer

The contract ideas are good ones, even if you don't have any intention of suing. Also, definitely contact your state funeral association, as another poster suggested. At the very least, this is an obviously unethical practice. In regards to giving the gowns to the hospital instead of the funeral home, definitely give a call to the Pastoral Care departments of any or all of your local hospitals. Someone there will be happy to help you! They may be very willing to accept the gowns on behalf of parents ans see that they reach their intended recipients for free, and they'll probably also be able to get the word out to many local clergy people that your group is offering this service. Many blessings...

Hot oil treatments twice a week and apply 2% hydrocortsone cream all over your scalp or at least the sunburned areas at bedtime. Use waterproof sunscreen on your scalp whenever possible. I have to do this every summer or my scalp gets sores from the sunburn.

To help your sunburn feel better, I suggest getting some vitamin E cream from the drugstore; it's very good for sunburned skin anywhere on the body. Be sure NOT to get the oil

In the future, you'll probably have to do what I do, and put sunscreen lotion on the part. It's a bit messy, but it's better than having a burn.

Watch out for it peeling. It will look like dandruff. Gross.

Ok you have two options for prevention:
1. Comb your hair back so that there is no scalp exposed.
2. Spray your hair and scalp with a product designed to shield your hair from UV rays. I use this avon one because its really affordable and allows me to go the beach with my hair parted!

Sunscreen-Blue Lizard is great. My husband's dermatologist recommended the product.

Wear a cap in the water and a hat outside to shield your head.

Aloe products and Bactine cream or spray ease sunburn.

wow. that SUCKS. im sorry i just had to say that...although you already knowww....
covering up is the only way 2 prevent it again, and to treat, use something soothing, the best is water on the colder side. you could use gels or whatever, but you're taking a risk because they might irritate your scalp, which is very raw, uber sensitive skin right now.

Definitely get some Aloe Vera, and put sun screen on next time.

For instant relief, wet your hair with cold water, and wrap a cold, damp towel around it.

If you can find a conditioner with aloe, use that.

To prevent: wear a hat!
