This is a follow up question to a question I asked a few days ago (Will a DVD player that I buy in China work well in America?) This DVD player has all of the featurs that are important to me. The problem is that the brand seems to be almost unknown even in China. I can only find it being sold on ebay. Does anyone know anything more about this Brand (KingWell)? The customer reviews seem to be great and that is important to me. It is called the KingWell KW-HD6900i

EDIT ; Kingwell Technology is actually the name of the EBAY Seller.who must have a link to the Chinese manufacturer Yan Tai. It's a bit confusing isn't it ?

It looks like a very good buy for the money.

It doesn't appear to be that much of a bargain to me. For $175 you could by any number of very nice upscaling DVD players from a major manufacturer that would stand behind a warranty. If it was true HD player it might be worth the risk, but upscaling DVD players are not that expensive.

If you are buying the one on ebay it is region free and will play all dvds no mater where they are from, as for reliability...I would spend a few bucks more for a name that can be serviced in the USA.
But you may get lucky and get a great player!

I assume upconversion is important for you. New HD and Blu-Ray DVD players are doing the best job by far upconverting regular DVDs.

You can get yourself a new Toshibs HD-A2 HD-DVD player for $250, plus 5 free HD-DVD movies! (I think offer ends 6/31) - see http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000IJV4BC/km-20/ref=nosim

If you still think you getting a better deal out of mass produced cheap chinese players - check out OPPO 971. It it a rather highly regarded universal player.

Based on my experience, UNKNOWN chinese brands should cost $30-$50 for a top of the line model.

I don't know this product but I recently listened to a pair of Chinese speakers that were incredible so maybe they are finally entering the quality HiFi/video market. But I sure wouldn't get an unknown product on e-bay.

Check OPPO for quality at decent price similar product.
