Skip the gift card, unless it's his birthday or something. The homemade cupcakes with a little note saying that you were thinking of him would be a good move. If he is a decent guy, he will love the effort you put into making them for him.

Be careful about a gift card, you don't need to buy this person.
A cupcake sounds thoughtful. Decorate it cute (look on the Internet all kinds of cute ideas) and put a little note on there
"You're my favorite cupcake"
"I am sweet on you'
Maybe if you want to do a gift card do it for something you could do together-like for a local ice cream shop. Keep it light, you said this is a crush.
Or if you are old enough (this is the mom in me) buy a little bucket put popcorn, soda and some candy in it and a coupon for a movie night in your living room.

I think that sounds supersweet! I wouldn't do the giftcard though, that makes it seem more formal somehow. But homemade cupcakes and card are an absolutely wonderful idea!

Are you actually dating him? If you are,it's fine. If not, it may be a little weird. Perhaps you should just give him the classic love letter or a cute card and put your phone number inside. Then if he calls you and he's interested in taking you on a date, then you could make him cupcakes. That would be sweet.

Cupcakes are an awesome idea. Especially if you make them. The gift becomes personal and means alot more.
