seriously. I've heard many complaints on R&S that people are bothered by Mormons, JW's, and other religious persons knocking on their door all the time and 'shoving' their literature in their face. It sounds as though this is overly commonplace.

seriously now.... how many religions have knocked on your door in the past week ? the past month?

dear Cassidizzle and Busy Bee: please forgive me. I meant no disrespect. My explaination was meant to reflect what I have READ on the board.... I have personally only had maybe 3 visits in the past 5 years. I don't mind them and understand what they are doing. I simply say "no thank you I already found the Lord".

We have lived in our house for about 8 years. In that 8 years, we have had about 3 visits.

Several years ago, we had probably one pair visit at least every two weeks or so. They were always either JW or LDS. I would tell them I had a church, but they seemed not to be deterred. Area churches usually just put a pamphlet in the door, but for some reason, they have slowed to the point that I think it has been at least one year or more with no visits. I think we might have a few exaggerations on here, but I could be wrong.

I would say 2 "religion" house calls in 5 yrs or so. One was a Baptist call, inviting us to church (we explained we already have a church home) There was no "shoving the religion in our face", and the other was a smaller non-denominational inviting us to a service as we were out in the garden.
No JW's or Mormons... although I've seen them in the neighborhood they go to every house but ours.
Seriously it is funny, I'll see them and they pass right by go next door, across the street.
It might be the Joshua 24:15 inscription on stone that we have at our door.
Although at the convenience store I stop at, regularly someone will be handing out a watchtower. I just say "No Thank You. I belong to Jesus."

None. But then again, I and MoonUnit have lived on a military base for the majority of the last 17 years.

We lived off base for three years, and in that time, we had a visit three or four times. Now the people that really ticked us off were the Kirby vacuum cleaner people. They came a knockin at least once a week.

We have however been harassed in the streets several times by people telling us the end of the world was near.. Repent Now!!.

I don't get them anymore. Well, I should say now that I live in a secured access apartment, I don't get them anymore.

When I lived in Kansas, we'd get them weekly. I was living with my then-boyfriend, and he was an atheist. Let's just say that never went down well.

If someone does knock on my door unsolicited, I don't answer it, or I nicely tell them I'm not interested.

I've seriously been considering printing up a bunch of fliers about agnosticism though. Hand it to them as they hand me theirs. It'd be a fair exchange of literature, right?

I get solicited more in parking lots and, sadly, on the college campuses I work at. One college campus shoos (shoos? Is that right?) solicitors off once the campus opens. So, the solicitors show up at 6 and 7 in the morning to avoid getting caught. My thought is: if you have to do that to avoid getting caught, maybe you should rethink what you are doing.

I don't actually get that many. Every few months or so i'll get a Mormon flyer stuck in my door, but that's about it.
My problem is all these inner-city kids coming to my neighborhood to try and sell me magazines and stuff to raise money for whatever. They're annoying and don't take no for an answer. I get them nearly every other day.

I live in a restricted access condo so I don't have that problem...LOL

Many of my friends do.

And to the two folks above me what you are saying simply isn't true from my past experiences. I even had one JW stick his foot in the door after I politely said I wasn't interested and tried to shut the door.

I used to get JW's at least 3 times a week and no matter how many times you tell them you are not interested they will not leave you alone. I finally told them that if they darkened my doorstep again I would have them arrested for trespassing and harrassment.

Every New Years Day at around six in the morning. And there was a mother and young daughter that used to chase me and my brother with pamphlets on the way to school.
