There isn't one yet.
MIcro$oft has proposed a replacement (HD Photo), but the current proposal isn't for an open source standard, so they have very little support at this time.
Not many standards groups or competing companies trust M$ with anything proprietary. A lot of people still remember the ongoing problems with the GIF format because of letting one company (UniSys) control the standard, because they charge license fees.

I think JPEG still remains the commonly used format for pictures. Although there is JPEG 2000.

To me, the replacement for JPEG is RAW. I shoot entirely in RAW now, and it is so powerful. I only convert to jpg when formatting files for clients, or when outputting to my print shop.
Jpg is pretty powerful, though I'm sure improvements can be made.

While there are different file types, ie., raw and variations of JPG, I dont see anything totally replacing .jpg files. Its pretty much ingrained into too many nooks and crannys around the world, to ever be replaced. Some systems will evolve, and new ones will be created, but they will fit their own little niches..
