Me and my mother have this fight all the time, she believes that i have no chance of making it in the music industry because A) i am a girl. B) Music is genetic and if you don’t have musical parents you have no chance. (My dad can barely play guitar and my mother is tone deaf.) And C) you must be supper musically gifted and start from a very young age. Personally i think this is all pathetic stereotyping and my parents are just jealous that they gave up on their dreams. So my mother could become another pathetic house wife, and my father a work-a-holic that think they need excessive material objects to be happy! Not me man. i have been drumming for 4 years and in one year, i am going to graduate and study music (regardless if they like it or not.) has any one ever ran into these particular beliefs before? What is your opinion? My heart goes out to anyone who has ever had parents that refuse to support their passion.

Yeah the materialism that brought you the computer you are typing this on is bogus.

Your folks had dreams, they gave them up for you, their ungrateful child. So don't listen to them. There is nothing in the world saying that you have to accept their support or their money to further your education, so tell them you have a dream and leave them behind. They can take a great vacation and live their pathetic lives for themselves, especially since they don't have to work themselves to death for your education. You weren't planning on them fronting the bills while you study music where you? How materialistic of you!

Your parents are trying to tell you that it takes more than passion to earn a living in the music business. You should know after 4 years if you have any talent. By all means live your dream, but don't live off the backs of your parents, stand on your own two feet, anything less is really pathetic.

When my kids get old enough I want to stand behind them 100% even if it means they might get hurt bc at least they tried. But being a house wife/ stay at home mom is a job and we work more than anybody else with a real job. The only people I respect more are working moms. If you say we are pathetic then try just one day in my shoes. I bet you wouldn't last.

because of the fact the angel Gabriel advised me that Jimmy Carter will become the Antichrist aka Dajjal (8th King in Rev. 17) and he will serve yet another term in workplace after the dying of Obama (seventh king). The angel Gabriel advised me in Aug. 1973 whilst i replaced into in Phillipsbrug, Montana that Jimmy Carter will become the Anti-Christ, and that he is going to alter his call, and divorce his spouse! Obama is going to die first and then the Anti-Christ aka Dajjal who replaced into between the previous 7 Presidents will take his place! Rev. 17:10 And there are seven kings: 5 are fallen, and one is, [and] the different isn't yet come; and whilst he cometh, he could proceed a short area. All 7 kings have been all alive until the dying of Ronald Reagan June 5, 2004 whilst George W. Bush replaced into in workplace ; a million. Gerald Ford 2. Jimmy Carter 3. Ronald Reagan 4. George H. W. Bush 5. bill Clinton 6. George W. Bush.... is spoken of interior the present stressful (and one is) because of the fact until Reagan died (June 5, 2004) all 7 have been alive! 7. Barack Obama.......and one is yet to come back! he will die some days after he will boost taxes! Obama is likewise in Dan. 11:20 Then shall get up in his supplies a raiser of taxes [in] the honour of the dominion: yet interior few days he would be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in conflict. Rev. 17:11 And the beast that replaced into, and is not any longer, even he's the 8th, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

my friends are professional musicians here in our country. some studied music in college, some didn't (they took BS and BA courses) but hey! here they are, jamming their hearts out and playing for us.

they say all it takes is courage to take risks and challenges and passion for creativity. but even now at the limelight, they always have backup plans if ever they pan out like businesses etc. it's better to be prepared.

a lot of my friends have bands but they don't necessarily take up music in college. they do it as an extracurricular activity.

some really took up music and their songs sound so good..

it doesn't matter if your parents support you or not. in the end, it's you who's going to be jamming, not them. in the end, it's you who's going to be happy and content. because it is YOU. MUSIC is YOU!

Ahhh, youth. Sure, you go for it. I assume you're under the age of 25 so you've got time to right the ship after you've wasted 4 or 5 years. Go for it!
