What games do justice to the Martial Arts? Tekken? Bloody Roar? Urban Reign? Dead or Alive? Mortal Kombat? Virtua Fighter? A non mainstream game? The UFC series? Def Jam?

Edit: Well Def Jam Figh for NY actually has certain Martial Arts Styles and techniques. Don't think because it's a game with rappers that it's just down and dirty.

Tekken 5. The producers at Namco only recruit experts who are 4th Dan and above to participate in MoCap (motion capture) to make the moves as real as possible. Apart from some dodgy techniques that obvisouly require wires and a Hong Kong stunt team, all the techniques you see in Tekken 5 are performed by real people. For example, the moves for the character Hwoarang are performed by Su-il Kwang, a 5th Dan black belt from the Japan International Tae Kwon Do Federation. For me, I believe Hwoarang in Tekken 5 best sums up the stylish (and highly effective) techniques of TKD.

Um... I may be a bit biased here (having played only the Tekken series and *briefly* the Mortal Kombat series), but I'd say Tekken. The characters move much more smoothly and fluidly, and they have some serious power-packed punches and kicks, which are VERY fun to watch. :-D
I also like the TKD characters in Tekken. I think Hwoarang would probably be the best representation of Tae Kwon Do. (Maybe not in attitude--that'd be Baek-- but certainly in technique.)

Mortal Kombat definitely is NOT among the best representations. As I mentioned in another post, I think that their moves are too stilted and choppy. MK's *only* defenses are two simple blocks, period. And yet, those two blocks somehow deflect every single attack you hurl at your opponent. o_O
And just how often do people barf on their opponent, anyway? (Yes, this is actually a technique in MK)

Yeah at 22 you should be getting out of video games. Martial arts can provide the escape from video games so you don't feel the need to play them. Once you can stop playing I'd sell your videos gaming stuff or give it ALL to a younger cousin. You don't have to do martial arts the rest of your life but it can open your eyes to many things outside of WoW and CoD.

This is pretty old school and obscure, but Bushido Blade 1, for the original Playstation, was by far the most realistic combat game I've ever seen. It was more of a "combat simulator" than a "fighting game."

You could choose from a variety of weapons: mostly Japanese swords, also naginata (bladed staff), sabre, and rapier. Each weapon had specifc stances, moves, and combos, all of which were based on the actual styles of the weapons in real life. There were no health bars. Typically one or two solid hits to the head or body finished the match. A hit to the leg or arm disabled that body part.

Man, I wish someone would update and re-release that game for consoles or computers today!

I have been playing dead or alive 3 since it came out ( 2001 ) it represents me best espacially because of Jann Lee with the quick jabs and quick lead kicks.

I dont think def jam will represent anybody here unless theyr are street thug fighters.

Edit: Hey Jon, i have played Def Jam fight for NY, and i really like it, matter fact its one of my favorite games. But its not the game that will represent somebody in martial arts. And its not because its rappers who fights ( i only listen to hip hop ) it juts not the kind of game that will inspire anybody towards martial arts.

The two with the most realistic moves are the Dead or Alive series and Enter the Matrix (expect running on walls isn't very realistic...)

Dead or Alive would have to be the best representation! the realistic moves are almost as if the fighter fights in reality!

I like 'em all. They are just all full of martial arts and all of it is just something I really love having when I need a fix for action games. Well...that's all I have basically...
