To clear your history you need to clear:
For each browser: History, Recently typed URLs, Last download location. Temporary internet files, Temporary files, cookies, each toolbar history (Google , Yahoo, Etc.)
Also:
Empty recycle bin, Media player play lists of recent movies played
In addition when these files are erased they are not overwritten so any free recovery tool can recover these files.
CCleaner deletes all this automatically. It also has an option to overwrite the files when they are deleted so they can not be recovered.
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Do not install toolbar option
In options.
Uncheck "only delete files older than 48 hour" if needed
Select secure file deletion and number of overwrite passes if needed
Set to run (clean) when the computer starts.
Place cookies you want to keep in save list
To make files that have been previously deleted but not overwritten unrecoverable:
Install Restoration (free)
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23108-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html
Start Restoration > on menu "Others" > Delete completely > Yes >Yes
Will run for about 6 hours.
Then another menu will appear; click yes ; will run for a couple of minutes more and then be finished.
Overwrites all deleted files making them non recoverable. Does not overwrite Windows files, Programs files, or any other files.
