The best value would be Cooper Union in NY. They are highly respected and the students pay no tuition. Can't beat that.

Also good would be Harvard - if you can get in and your family is poor or even middle class, they give you a grant for the whole cost of the tuition.

At Princeton if you get a scholarship you dont have to pay it back.

There are quite a few highly rated but not quite top schools that give what amount to full scholarships to very good candidates. I think schools like Fordham, George Washington University in DC, and BU would be in this category.

But if you are a middle class student with mediocre credentials, then the best value is probably your state university. Low tuition, but pretty good education if you can avoid just becoming one of the faces in the crowd.
