your dog needs to be properly socialized.

Take it to obedience lessons. Failure to properly train and socialize a dog can have serious repercussions, if your dog does bite somebody you will be held responsible, and if you have failed to educate the dog, then you may be doubley liable....

Good Evening:
This dog sounds like it needs a little socialization. A training collar and trips to public areas where there are people helps. Take it a step at a time. Stop and talk to people while the dog is on the leash. Make the dog sit while you talk to other people. Lots of praise (not snacks if you can help it) Pets and hugs when they can be in a situation without the dog being aggressive. Dogs will bite! DO not push anyome to pet YOUR DOG! Also, warn your visitors that your dog is in training for aggressive behavior.

The most important thing is to socialize her. Have friends or family member come over to the house frequently so that she gets used to them being there. You didn't say what breed of dog, but most dogs become territorial over their homes and tend to over react when someone comes over.

With my terrier I found the easiest (although not the fastest) way to break her of this behavior, was to have friends & family drop in 5 or 6 times a day each. (there was someone knocking about every 15 minutes...LOL). Each time someone would come over, I would attach the short leash and put her into sit before answering the door. This would give me some control over her behavior. I acknowledge the guest myself and then would introduce the guest to Sassy. As long as she didn't bark or jump up, she would get a treat. It took 2 or 3 weekends of doing this, but she eventually got the idea.

Make sure your guests know that their attention should be on you when they enter. They should not acknowledge your dog at all until they are introduced. By acknowledging the dog, they are acknowledging the behavior.

Best of luck!

You're dog isn't crazy just not socialized. You need to take her out in public places more often & let her get used to people. You'll find shortly she'll want to be around more people & will start to want to interact more. Having your more frequent visitors give her special treats ones that she only gets when they visit, is a good way to break the ice. It'll just take a little time & patience. I had one that was afraid of everything. I started taking her out more & then to the nursing homes. She has totally changed in 2 yrs & looks forward to going to visit now. It worked for her & should work for you too.

You should be worried that is a RED ZONE dog. You need to get a book or go online on how to train her! She sounds like she could go off on someone anytime.

Go talk to a trainer (call pet smart or petco) even your vet may know of someone. I would muzzle her for now. Has she had any training?

Try dog obedience so she can be trained to listen and set or down and stay.
