I don't know exactly. It depends on if I have any compassion on them in the first place. If it's someone I positively despise, I simply have nothing to do with them-compassion wise or not. Any compassion I do have for anyone ends when I see them willfully tripping over the same stone over and over.

I think compassion should start with yourself. Otherwise, it's probably going to be hard to grasp when it comes to showing it to others.

Just my luck, though, my DNA was DOA in the compassion department when it comes to myself. So....

Compassion and rendering help are two very different things in my book.

I will feel compassion for anyone who is making a sincere attempt or truly needs help. However, I'll render assistance only up to the point where they really can do it themselves or should be able to do things for themselves.

This is something I have really been thinking about. In a land of such abundance, how can we keep on living as we are while so many others are suffering. But in your day to day life how much can you, or will you, consider the plight of others around the world? I can't really answer your question other than to say it has really been on my heart lately.

When they have been given the help they need to take care of themselves and they refuse to do so, at the point where they expect others to carry them.

It doesn't. This is why the Catholics pray to Saints to intercede for us because we know they , as the body of Christ, feel sorry for us and will help if they can
