PROS AND CONS....Thanks

Ok, first of all in a lot of cases which you will notice while shopping, LCD is not cheaper than plasma. The cons are not necessarily negatives of the products. They are just in comparison with the other technology.
LCD pros: They are lighter. No reflection on screen in sunny rooms. Available in smaller sizes. More computer compatible. Easier to repair.
LCD cons: Usually lower contrast ratio, 800:1 to 5,000:1. Slower response times. 4ms is the fastest I've seen.
Plasma pros: Available in larger sizes. Higher contrast ratio, 10,000:1 to 15,000:1. Lower response time. I believe 3ms is standard on plasmas. They have a wider viewing angle than LCD although LCD is catching up.
Plasma cons: They are much heavier. They run hotter and expend more energy. Very reflective in sunny rooms. Plasmas generally have an overall better picture. They can show darker blacks and brighter whites than LCDs. The new generation of plasmas no longer suffer from screen burn-in. They are better for watching movies and the new plasmas have a life of about 60,000 hours, the same as LCDs. Decide what technology you want to go with. Narrow it down to 2 or 3 models. I can't tell you what brand is best because there is no "best brand". Get the one in your price range with the best specs. Make sure your choice has a service center in your area and get an extended warranty. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

The best is going to be determined upon your viewing habits.

There are pros and cons of every technology. LCD is the fad right now. The prices are falling and the capability of large screens is emerging. A couple of the pros of LCD is the capability of 1080p resolution (however, there are some reasonably affordable plasma 1080p now), and the fact that they can't burn-in. The cons would be that they do as well with fast action(sports and action movies). Plasma does a better job with action. Plasma has practically eliminated burn-in with the pixel shift built into most major manufacturers tv

If you think you will have a computer hooked up or be gaming often, you might consider LCD. If it is just for movie watching or gaming every now and then, plasma would probably be a better choice.

FYI - Don't let people scare you out of plasma by them telling you they don't last as long, or they will burn-in. The fact is, Plasma is rated to last just as long as LCD, and most plasmas have a pixel shift technology the make burn-in a thing of the past.

There is a lot of controversy over which technology is better. However, many people have mistaken opinions over what makes one better than the other.

LCD's main advantages are:

- Can be found in smaller sizes(<37")

- Can have higher resolution in a smaller size

- Lighter

- Easier to repair if it were to break

- In some cases, Less glare

Plasma's main advantages are:

- Better colors and contrast

- Larger screen sizes are available and for cheaper than LCD

- Wider viewing angle

- Better response time(very small difference if any however in practical application)

- Screen not as easy to damage(it has a glass front)

Some issues that are often brought up but are for the most part incorrect:

Plasma does not have major problems with burn in anymore as many people suggest. It can still happen, however, it is nowhere near the problem it was when they originated. Pixel shifting technology keeps a static image imperceptibly moving so that it takes much longer for any burn in to occur. It takes user neglect to cause this problem now.

LCD Technology does not necessarily last longer(both are often spec'ed around 60,000 hours to half brightness(Which is 20 years of life at 8 hours a day)

Both are great technologies. I would recommend an LCD if you plan on using it with a computer as they typically have higher resolutions in a smaller screen size as I stated before(1080p more common). There are more 720p plasmas out there but the difference isn't THAT dramatic in my opinion.

For a home theater/movie watching I would go with plasma as the black level cannot be beat by LCD and that is really important in movies where dark scenes are commonplace.

Evaluate your needs and base your purchase off that.

LCD flatscreens are a lot lighter than Plasma TVs which weigh over a 100 lbs. Nevertheless, LCD flatscreens may have limited viewing angles and can suffer from dead pixels. While Plasma TVs are very suspectible to ghosting which is the result of having a fixed image inadvertently left on the screen for a long period of time. This fixed image will literally remain as a ghost image backgrounded to the screen. Usually the solution is to install a floating screen savers which is activated when the screen is not active.

And then there are rear projection LCD's and DLP's which use mirror panels and color wheels to filter and project a very large screen image [ranging from 65" to 72" diagonally measured]. The major concern is replacement cost of lamps which usually cost between $200 - $300 and last any number of hours depending on how the TV is shut off. Failing to properly shut down either LCD or DLP units which involves leaving on the main fan running for some 20 minutes -- will result in early failure of projection lamps. And there's the added concern regarding the use of "organic" material which make up the LCD panels/mirrors and usually causes the blue panel to fade over a period of time. So you may have to look forward to purchasing a new LCD projection TV. But getting back to DLP projection TV, there is the issue of viewers seeing the dreaded "rainbow effect" which are color flashes appear in highly contrasty dark scenes. Their sighting can cause headaches and is quite annoying to the viewers. And a possible cure is to choose a color wheel which operates faster than 3X; say 4X which seems to be the threshold speed that virtually eliminates the rainbow effect.

And finally, we should also consider the "ultimate, best" TV technology: "Front Projection."

You may well want to check out another technology: DLP front projection which produces a movie-like experience of HD television, DVDs, videos and games. And according to Consumer Reports, "front projection has a superior image -- better than CRT's, LCDs or plasma."

Check out the reviews for a "92" DLP generated [front projection] TV image at amazon.com by submitting the search query: "Infocus SP4805." There are any number of customer submitted pictures of projected HDTV image(s) along with other high-quality regular DVD-movie images projected on bare white wall surfaces. And the price for a refurbished ScreenPlay 4805 is about $325 with lamps costing around $330 which will last around 4,000 hours. Also check out various reviews at Consumer Reports [November 2005 & December 2006] in which front projection is rated "superior" to plasma, lcd.

Good luck!

I would definitely get the LCD. My roomie got a plasma, and the thing was a lot of trouble. He took it back and got the LCD which goes great with the Dish Network.

LCD's: Higher resolution, brighter, non-reflective.
PLASMA: Faster processor for movement, (Smoother images) more natural colours and 3 dimensional look. Most people are buying LCDs, as with HD TV they look that much sharper, etc. If you are a sports fanatic, recommended Plasma still, because of lots of movement, but for general TV and Dvds and sports, LCD. Follow the trend!

Recommend: Samsung/Toshiba/Sony LCDs. Samsung/Panasonic/Pioneer plasmas.

Samsung make a lot of components and screens for most companies anyway!

Hope this helps.
