Toyotas are the worlds best cars for a reason. Don't listen to the last answer. There are more Toyotas being repaired because there are more Toyotas on the road. People that settle for less than the best quality always try to find reasons to justify their flawed reasoning. The Corolla and Camry are both excellent vehicles. The Corolla actually help start it all back in 1969. There are many first gen Corollas still on the road today. Corollas are hand me down cars. You buy it and drive it; Pass it down to your kids and the youngest of your kids passes it down to their kids. They same with 4 cylider Camrys. You can't go wrong with either. The real question is: do you want the bigger or smaller car.

you didn't specify what year engines you're interested in. The original camry engine was the 2SE. Very reliable but under powered. the next camry gen. had a 3S-FE. Good power, seems to last forever. starting in '98 the camry used the 5S-FE. Good power and reliability. Starting in '92 the Corolla used a 4A-FE. Very good endurance but limited power. As an option in "93, the 7A-FE was introduced. Probably the best engine Toyota ever made. All Corolla engines from '98 on, had a number of problems from oil and coolant leaks to oil burning due to poor ring design.

toyota camry I4 engines have better performance and last longer. although Corolla engines will last you a very long time as well. The camry engine has more horsepower so it doesnt require as much air to accelerate this helps to preserve the life of the engine.

They'll both last a long time, i'd have to say the corolla engine. But really you need to worry about rust before you need to worry about a toyota 4 cylinder failing you.

They are both over-rated because Toyota, like all the other Japanese cars, enjoy a "percieved" reputation of being long lasting quality cars. If you look at the Toyota section in Yahoo cars and transportation, the list of "help me fix this or that" is LONGER than any other vehicle make. You have been bamboozled. Get smart and actually take a look around. There's lots and lots of other cars that are very nice with great performing, long lasting I4 engines.

Corollas are probably the most reliable car on the road today. I've seen these cars abused to an extreme degree, and they still keep on truckin'. I rarely see one in the shop for more than just maintenance. My only complaint is that their timing chain tensioners tend to leak over time, which isn't a big deal. Keep in mind that cars don't have expiration dates, nowadays most of them just keep running as long as they're being taken care of. If you blow up a Corolla engine, you don't belong near a car.

both are basically the same engine. Little more HP with the Camry.
It all boils down to how you treat them.
