Iam a Catholic Christian and I listen to all kinds of music. I listen to rock and roll from Elvis to Led Zeppelin and everyone else in between, I listen to country, and classical, and Christian. There is nothing wrong with listening to secular music. Would you think a Christian would listen to Ac/Dc or Ozzy Osbourne? I do, I think they are all great performers

I think that secular music can send an important or even uplifting message, it isn't just Christian music that can do that. While there is some secular music that crosses the line, often times listening to it can be a great release and relates on a very real level to the experiences that people go throught. Sadly some people do let music influence them and push them over the line, so you just have to be aware of the influence it has over you. I am a christian but a fan of many secular bands, I think it is fine that you listen to secular music, as long as you are aware of how it affects you.

People tend to put Christianity into this neat little package. Faith is complex but at the same time beautiful. You aren't any less a Christian just because you enjoy Linkin Park as opposed to gospel music. Your actions speak louder than any lyrics to any song you hear. Are you a good person? Do you treat others with respect? Is your heart free of hate and your mind focused? If so, what does it matter what your ears hear - what does your heart say? God Bless

Music does influence us. From experience I know this. The mood of a song affects your mood. Do an experiment, a real scientific experiment. Try listening to just up beat, Christian music for a week- exclusively. Take serious note to your mood, attitude, and perspective. For the next week do the same thing but with secular music- any kind you want. See what you think but don't go into it with a biased opinion.
Also- search the scriptures for what it says about music and your thoughts- you know, pure, just, lovely, of good report... This is a decision for you to determine logically and knowledgeably- between you and God.

all media preaches a message whether for God or not for God.. The way I decide whether or not to listen to music is by finding out if the musicians actually are Christian instead of just saying they are and by the message they promote. If the music is positive then I might just listen to it.
Keep in mind that The Bible says to abstain from the appearance of evil so this means you are not to appear like the world. For example you probably shouldnt listen to stuff that is all about sex, drugs, and money.
Garbage in Garbage out.

Perhaps you have heard the expression "You are what you eat". A Christian needs to learn to feed on things that will enrich his spiritual being. Feasting on things that just 'entertain' will help you to grow spiritually. If you ask the Holy Spirit to help you with this, He will teach you to listen to the messages in the songs, and the beat and help you to determine which music builds your life spiritually and which drags you back into worldly things. The negative messages in secular music will affect you even if you think it does not. Just as you choose to eat foods to keep you physically healthy, we also need to choose music and activities that will keep us spiritually healthy. A diet of 'fun' or 'fad' foods will harm us in the long run. We may not notice it at first but eventually we will pay the price with obesity, high colesterol and possible damage to our intestines and major organs. So choose your spiritual diet carefully. You become what you love. Love Jesus above it all and feast on Him and everything else will fall into place.

Is it good music? If it's not good then it is bad. Believe me, secular music is not a good choice. I also had to give it up a few years back. Although I am not the best being, I keep myself away from secular music. Even if that kind of music may not influence for your wrong doings, it's not for God so therefore it's not correct for you to listen to it. So many people believe it's okay to listen to secular music, but it is not.

I know exactly what you mean.....Mary J. Blige is BY FAR my favorite artist. But, although her music is secular, she is a self-proclaimed Christian. I see nothing wrong with listening to secular music, as long as the lyrics are positive. There are some Christian rock bands who have a sound like Linkin Park. The Fray has some great songs, which come on secular stations, but they are Christian. Check them out. You just have to ask around.

Honestly, I'm not sure, I would just say it's a personal choice, and if you feel that you are being influenced by it in a negative way, then you should stop listening to it. I'm Christian, and I listen to a lot of music that talks about fornication and drug use (etc.), but I don't do those things, as I realize they are wrong.

I'm a Christian.....sing in the choir every Sunday, even....and I listen to all different kinds of music. The only things I wouldn't listen to would be things that actually seem to be blasphemous or hateful toward God. I think you're probably fine. (I actually like Linkin Park too....I think they have a really cool sound)

Listening to secular music isn't sin, but listening to Christian music keeps you on track. There are so many great bands with a good message. May you continue to walk in Christ, brother!
