Our dog has been diagnosed as diabetic. We have access to relatively inexpensive sources of Humolog insulin and would like to use it in place of the Vetsulin (Insulin for Animals) that our Veterinarian has prescribed. Can the substatution be made and will the effects and dosages be the same?

I believe it can, but you will have to have your vet calculate the dosage. The dosage and intervals between injections are not the same, as I recall.

There have been a lot of problems with Vetsulin, but more in cats than dogs. Its effect is now a smooth curve of release, and cats, having a smaller body mass, are harder to stabilize on Vetsulin.

Possibly, but probably not at the same dose, and any change in insulin dosage should be monitored by your vet. Check out the these websites: http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/d.html and http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/insulin-humulin-iletin-vetsulin/page1.aspx or go to the Lilly pharmaceutical company website.

again this is a question u should ask ur vet. humolog is an insulin best suited for humans it is made with the thought that humans r going to use it. just like an insulin pump. they were made with a state of mind that humans were going to use them. humolog is a human product vetsulin is a dog or cat product. either ask the vet or stick with the prescription

Insulins can't be substituted. The dogs blood glucose levels may react very differently with each, and dosing may be different as well. Close monitoring is very important. If you can't afford the Vetsulin, ask your vet for alternatives.

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/MHtYq

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

No!! If you do not know how much you should give your dog, you will kill it. Plus humolog is made for humans not animals.
