Why is it that some people refer to God as God, and others refer to Him as Father?

Does not one show Religion, and the other show Relationship?

When you are a child, you hear " God." And as you grow in your Christian walk He so does become more personal to you, and you understand Him as your Father, who always has your hand to guide you and if you fall, He'll be there in milli seconds when you call. But, it doesn't have to stop at Father. He wants to be your Abba, which mean's "daddy." For the first time in my life, I am truly... "Daddy's little girl!" Thank you, Abba.

You're right...to a point.

I call God Father when I'm talking to Him since I have a relationship with him.

In general conversation, I refer to Him as God or Yhovah (His name in Hebrew) for two reasons: since some might perceive me as a Bible thumper (which isn't exactly considered a complimentary term), I prefer to stay away from such a label.

The other reason is because my relationship with Him is personal, just like the scriptures tell us it should be.

I prefer to think that my use of "God" instead of "Father" is a theological thing instead of a religious thing

It may depend on to whom one is speaking as to which word they use. Sometimes I call His name Abba - Father, but close to Daddy, other times Lord...but He knows my heart, so what I choose to call Him is personal based on our relationship.

Here are but a few of His other names:

Adonai – Lord (this is always in the possessive and plural...see
Elohim…meaning Lords')
El – mighty, strong, prominent – Nu 23:22 (translated 250 as "God")
Elohim – The Creator – Revelation 4:11 (the name is always plural
confirming the trinity)
El-Elyon – The God most high – Isaiah 46:9-10
El-Roi – The God who sees – Proverbs 5:21
El-Shaddai – God Almighty (or all sufficient) – Genesis 17:1-2

I don't see how it shows religion. You can be non-religious and still acknowledge God. And as far as relationship, well we are related to him - He's the father of the universe, hence the name Father. You have a father, and he also has a name. He may be known by his name at times or by Dad (or Father) at other times. Such is God.

He is refered to both because God is who he is, but he is the father of all of us because he was the father of the first people, Adam and Eve.

He is both.

Prior to our mortal birth, we lived as spirit children of a Heavenly Father. This describes a family relationship. He prepared this earth with conditions suitable for our continued growth and development much like parents here might send their children away to school.

The term, "God" typically refers to a being that is far above our level of understanding or level of power. It certainly applies to our Heavenly Father.

It's true, christianity cetainly is not a religion, but it is a relationship with our Heavenly Father. And Father isn't His only name: He's got TONS of em. I can't remember the number but it took up about two or three pages when i printed it out.

Yes, good point.
I believe Father & God are interchangeable. Depends on the referance.
When I speak of God, I use God. When I talk to God, I sometimes call God Father.
I don't believe it matters what you call God, it's how you call.

Christ referred to HIM as "FATHER" and HE is our Heavenly FATHER thus some refer to HIM as FATHER. HE is our GOD and FATHER both give a relationship to us. HE is our Creator, FATHER, GOD. HE is all-knowing, all-seeing, and is ever-present. Have a wonderful evening.
Thanks,
Eds
