I certainly do not hate Mormons., I am just surprised they are unwilling or unable to defend their doctrines. As Christians we are taught to always be ready to contend for our faith. Does not Mormonism have similar beliefs to Christians?

If they can't defend it they will just deny that it was doctrine. They'll say it was just a prophet's "opinion". Or they will say that God changed His mind, so it's a changed doctrine. I do think they should rename the D& C the Opinions and Changing Covenants.

Please understand that most morgbots are not taught to be pro-active in understanding their faith: It is delivered in tidy little sunday school or priesthood meeting manuals that tell them what they believe. There is not discussion, no debate and no dissent. Thus the term: Morgbot.

Only a few that show up here are worth listening to, but they've also be told what to think, and will not discuss alternate interpretations, and dismiss the bible when talking to a 'christian'.

You'll have greater success arguing with a concrete wall, and possibly a better response than Y!A.

They like to follow Robert Millet's advice and "answer the question they should have asked". So instead of answering your question now why they believe God is a polygamist, they will let you about Joseph Smith.
They don't know how to give you a straight answer to anything. If you ask a Christian about their beliefs they can take you right the the Bible and show you what and why they believe it.

Mormons do have very similar beliefs to Christians, because they are Christians. A Christian is anyone who believes in Jesus Christ, and we do. The official name of our church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" or LDS. it is possible to defend our doctrines, it just takes time and patience. One in particular; when our church was first established, a commandment was added to the mormon way of life. The Word of Wisdom, which pertains to drinking and smoking. when that first came into existance, the reasoning for it was that those things were not healthy for your body, and you shouldn't do it. Back then, they were laughed at for saying that, but later in the mid-1900's , studies came out saying that alcohol and smoking were indeed unhealthy.

Wow! there's a lot of hatred here toward Mormonism.

Yes. I can defend and support all of my beliefs. No - I'm not a nutcase.

It's interesting to me that Mormons accept the basic truths of all Christian religions and recognize the value of a Christian belief, but that so many "Christians" find it easy to hate people who believe differently then they.

I am quick to defend my Christianity - i am slower to respond to "attacks" to my Mormonism. Yes - I will stand for Christ. I believe the Bible. But I also believe that God has more to tell us - hence modern scripture. (aka the Book of Mormon and the D&C) I refuse to accept that God intended us to go 2000 years without a prophet or leader in His church.

I believe the 10 commandments. I believe in the promises made in the Bible.

What specific Mormon doctrines do I need to defend? I don't drink - I believe it's bad for a person's body, but I also believe that reducing our consciousness with alcohol invites Satan to further influence our decisions and misguide us - therefore, it's better not to drink.

In the Bible, God presents Jesus and says "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." Why wouldn't God do the same in modern times? Has god changed? No. So why would his methods? I believe that God presented Jesus to Joseph Smith and allowed the true priesthood to be restored through him.

I believe in baptism - as do many/most Christian religions.

I believe in marriage - as do most Christian religions.

I believe in teaching my kids about Jesus.

I believe in being kind.

I believe that the Bible is God's word - recognizing that it has been changed/corrupted over time and interpretation.

do you have specific concerns or questions about what Mormons believe or why?
