When I was a little boy of about five or six I was walking along with my dad and he said:
"Billy, just remember, in the end it's just you and God."

I am closing in on 55, and I have never forgotten what he said.

My father is a very down to earth, spiritual man, kind to strangers, coming to the aid of people in need or danger (he has the scars to prove it), and almost always has a smile on his lips (especially for pretty ladies). He was a Hippie in the 60's and still retains the positives without the negatives.

He would tell me, "I can plant a seed; I can water the sprout; I can nurture a tree; I can cut it down, but I cannot MAKE a tree. I believe there is something like a god out there, but it is tough to figure out what it looks like. All I know is that it's bigger and badder then I am, and I respect that."

my father taught me that God was a physical man with a physical son with a physical wife. i might have believed him.
until i was about 10. then, with the intelligence of a 10yo, I knew couldn't be true. i mean, how can God have a physical body? where's the scientific evidence? if He (why a He?) had a body, He wasn't supernatural, and would have to obey natural laws.

it's sad how many "Christians" are nothing more than worshipers of there own imagination.
MORAL: don't listen to what your parents tell you about God.
learn about God for yourself.

My father NEVER said one word about God. When I had questions, I asked my mother.

Without questioning anything, he threw me into church and raised me to believe the not-even-Biblical traditional Christian beliefs. I had to break free on my own and my beliefs (or lack thereof) were not accepted. He just wanted everything to be peaceful in the house, but I guess peace is possible if everyone agrees on the same thing... too bad that isn't the case, hmm?

He didnt teach me anything about God as far as i remember,

He did display to me what it is to be a man and what it is that real men are,
Men are made in Gods image but men are also made of clay,
Men have the image of Gods sacred heart.

My father taught me to think for myself and my mother believed that religion should be used to control the behavior of children. He was an atheist, she was Catholic. It was not a good match, and not a good childhood.

My father was a Mormon, but he didn't teach me anything. My mother was a Pagan, and she taught me to believe whatI wanted. My father was kind enough to let me believe what I wanted, even if they weren't his beliefs.
