You will never find a Dr willing to give you a sedative for a simple needle prick.

Many Drs have spray cans of Lidocaine on hand so they can spray your skin and numb it up. Then you simply close your eyes and you can not tell when they stick the needle in or anything else about the procedure as long as your eyes remain closed.

Always ask for a butterfly needle and if you get a good phlebotomist you will never even feel the tiny prick these needles make, even without the Lidocaine.

try to learn some deep breathing relaxation exercises. Like in a yoga class. then use them before and during the procedure. If you know someone who has serious childbirth natural type prep training, you can use that same technique(whether male or female). Also hypnosis could be used if you can find a reputable person who can teach you and help desensitize you to it.
Tell the office staff of the doctor/dentist/lab you have the phobia, and be firm and serious when you say it, dont make it a joke time, and ask if there is anyone who would be able to help you with your relaxation focused breathing while getting the dreaded treatment. There are many who will help you through it by keeping focused on your breathing and relaxation.
Best of luck

never heard of a doctor giving a sedative before a shot , or drawing blood, etc. The reason is the medication is longer acting than the actual procedure. Just take deep breaths, don't think about what is going to happen-think of your favorite place, like the beach and it will be over before you know it!

Won't happen. There are more dangers in the possible side effects of giving you a sedative then in having you scream and faint from the needle.

They can and will give you a sedative, but it take's about 10 to 15 shots to get the right amount in you. Bummer!

no they will not give you anything at all. I am terrified of needles too. Just let them know before they must give you a shot or draw blood. Lots of nurses are sypathetic.
