I knew a lady who had a miniature pony that she took everywhere with her, and she took her german shepherd also. The two were very good friends and played together and slept together, but this is not the common bond that the miniature pony should make, and some dogs cannot be trusted this much. The pony would have to be very special, the situation very unique and the dog a very well behaved one for this to work well.

I actually have had a miniture pony on my property, that i was looking after for a friend. It thinks its a dog. My dogs were very wary of it at first, but the tantrums and howls and carry on once my friend came back from hols and took her pony back, my god, they really liked that pony. I have since had to take my dogs around to visit it, they are all large dogs, so watching them play with this pony was hilarious, one of the dogs weighed more than the pony did.

Well that depends , first decide what the purpose of your minis will be . If just for fun any equine advert site will do if you are planning on showing , first research what winning as far as build & bloodlines and then what can you afford to buy , buy as well bred mares proven / ones that have foaled without problems . We have a small herd and have paid as much as 3200.00 for a mare and as little as 175.00 for weanling's and yearlings depending on what you are planning on doing with them , because a 175.00 mare cant compete with a 3200.00 mare there not the same in more ways than I could explain . and the ole days of finding a champion by luck for 200.00/ 300.00is is like shooting in the dark .

I have a friend who breeds shetlands and she has always found that her dogs love the ponys and in return the ponys love her dogs, they romp around the paddocks together wonderfully
