i had mono about this time last year. im not going to lie, it does get very painful. you really can eat many solid foods. i lived off of smoothies and spaghetti for pretty much the whole time i had it. mine last about 2 months. and theres no medication that you can take to make it go away faster. you just have to let it go on its own. however, my doctor did prescribe me a type of steroid called prednazone( not sure on the spelling) and what that does is to help minimize the swelling of your tonsils and glands. it helped alot and made me feel so much better. you sould talk to your doctor about maybe getting a prescription for that to ease the pain. also mono tends to make you very tired and drain of you of all energy. you will probably sleep alot while you have it but whatever you do dont try to get up and do anything that takes alot of enrgey. if you dont get enough rest i promise you it will not heal and even if it does it will come back. the main cure for mono is rest. so rent some movies and get ready to stay in bed for a long time. in the mean time take lots of advil and eat cold soft things like smoothies and ice cream. the cold soothes your throat. sorry you have it and feel better soon

I had mono in the 6th grade. The only way they found it was a lump on the inside of my elbow. I was not tired nor did I feel any different. They only had me take a vitamin.
Symptoms usually last two to four weeks.
Here is a website about Mono. http://www.virtualpediatrichospital.org/patients/cqqa/mono.shtml#7

My brother had it, but his first test was a false negative, so he didn't think he had it. He kept up his intense training for cross country skiing, and his mono kept up for a couple months. He only found out after the ski season that he did have mono afterall. Rest is the quickest medication...

I had it when I was about 14 years old. It lasted about 4-5 weeks. I think the best thing you can do for it is rest. You pretty much have to wait it out. When you are well enough to go about your normal activities, you will need to take it easy, because you can easily become fatigued or even have a relapse.

I've had it. Felt like a kicked dog for about 4 weeks; slept all the time.
You can try sweating it out in a sauna and get an internal cleansing at the health food store. Or you can try over-the-counter remedies like Gland Nurse.

no. but my sister had it. just stay in bed. dont do any dangerous activities. no sports, nothing. if you do damage to your spleen. If it ruptures, you could die. Drink liquids. If you have a sore throat, gargle with salt water, or suck on throat lozenges, hard candy or flavored frozen desserts (such as Popsicles). You may want to take acetaminophen (one brand name: Tylenol) or ibuprofen (some brand names: Advil, Motrin, Nuprin) to relieve pain and fever. Do not give aspirin to children. Aspirin should be avoided because it has been associated with a disease called Reye's syndrome in children. Reye's syndrome is a serious illness that can lead to death.

Usually, a doctor will tell you how to get better faster. It typically lasts about 1-2-3 weeks, depending on how bad you have it.
