I wouldn't worry about songs, I'd worry about learning the strings, notes, parts of the guitar, and how to read music, if you have a teacher he/she will expect you to learn notation. If you want to learn easy songs why not get a book on beginning guitar and start there, a lot of them have Cd's in the back so you can check and see if your doing things right. You can't just sit down and learn songs, you have to stretch your muscles, get callouses, learn how to make cords like F, and G, which is not easy for a beginner. Try the book that I recommend and you'll see what I mean. Starting guitar is not as easy as everyone thinks. I had a student once who came here with a book saying he wanted to learn "Stairway to Heaven" before he left, and boy was he surprised when he saw that it wasn't that easy, and when he did leave he was lucky if he remembered how to make a D cord or the names of the strings. These guys above me are kidding, I can't imagine someone who doesn't know how to play guitar playing these songs so that they sound good, maybe if your playing single notes slowly, or that your very talented and have the ability to learn quickly, I taught one student the C scale finger stylye in the first, second, and third position, and that took her a week. If you do get a teacher they are going to want you to play correctly so you better follow a books directions on how to start or you'll have to undue all you bad habits.

A Horse With No Name by America was one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. It's only two chords too, D 6/9 and E minor. Basically the whole song is played on the second fret!

Any country and older rock songs have three chords. Just learn the G, C and D chords and you have most of the 60s and 70s licked.

Go to the library. You will get lessons from books and not start out with some habits that will be hard to change.

Score some shadows CDs theyre solos are easy to pick up by ear, and their chords arent too hard to work out. There are plenty of guiutar sites online. one I use a lot is gootar.

I hear the main riff to Smoke On the Water is easy. I don't play guitar, so I can't verify this.
