First, I would not believe anything that Martinez says. Either he is too new to the Senate, or he is quick study of the
slight -of-hand hucksters who have been in the congress for far toooo long.
Keep writing and faxing your reps. We are the only people who can stop this thing. What i would like to see, if just a bill (another bill) to secure the borders. Once they do that, then come back and talk about the worker programs. Why does everything have to be done all at once?

More behind closed door talks, why not let the public that has to live with this bill hear the details as they unfold?

You would think that Bush would look at that 29% aapproval rating and the 26% (?) approval rating for congress and maybe try to figure out what the American people are thinking about.... But then again if you are surrounded by lobbyists and special interest groups I guess it may be hard to hear the average American. Time to hit my keyboard again, I have the email addresses of my Senators memorized. Sad really

Perhaps sometimes forewarned is forearmed.

However, this part dismays me:
He would not specify which amendments he finds problematic for fear that critics of the immigration bill would support those in an attempt to sink the measure.

This part concerns me as well:
But pro-immigrant groups are likely to attack a provision said to be in the amendment that would penalize certain immigrants who overstay their visa with imprisonment for at least 60 days. Penalties paid by violators would be used to offset spending for security improvements.
To appease pro-immigrant rights groups, some senators yesterday floated a proposal to increase the number of green cards by 10,000 annually for immigrants with family ties to the U.S., sources said. But it is unclear whether that will win over any critics.
(They want to increase the numbers even more?)

All this leads me to think one thing....
closed doors meetings are NOT in the citizens best interests
and we've got our work cut out for us...we have to keep protesting and contacting our legislators and saying NO! NO! NO!

Edit: I just emailed Senator Reid and politely asked him not to allow this bill be brought back to the floor. We all need to do this at the link below...

I think they are just as clueless about this as they were before.
backroom deals, appeasment. mel martinez saying we arent going to let this get derailed by any one issue.
Which yea... apparently it doesnt matter if that one issue is disastrous. becuase they want this thing to pass, citizens and the real welfare of everyone be damned they are going to try and pass it.

And I of course will continue to let my Senators know I will never support anyone who supports the bill as it has been so far.

Okay, the first thing I saw was "Behind closed doors".
Are these coward Senators afraid of being put under the light of day and truth?
This is BS. You know it. I know it. And any true American knows it.

Time to clean house...

I do like reading tomorrow's news today, just by having internet service and reading the online news.

I like real news though, not celeb news. By the time celeb news reaches the airwaves, it really is old news!

I love the posturing from Martinez: "There are some really bad amendments..." Uh-huh... As if this will appease the NO-AMNESTY crowd...

These bastards just DON'T GET IT -- neither Republican nor Democrat. They WORK FOR US, not for ILLEGALS.
