Morningside Heights is an upscale neighborhood with doormen apartment buildings and close to Riverside Park. You have your typical neighborhood stores and restaurants that cater mainly to Columbia students. There are a lot of long time residence, including senior citizens. Nice but low key. NYU on the other hand is the opposite. It's a thriving community filled with energy, starting at Washington Square Park. You always hear music in the park. Plenty of art galleries if you head east and plenty of famous bars if you head west from the park. NYU of course is in Greenwich Village so the music and film crowd are always floating about. NYU is a great school, but only in film and theater and a few other departments it surpasses Columbia, which is a top 10 school in the country while NYU is a top 35 school. As far as neighborhoods Greenwich Village is one of the world's most famous neighborhoods. NYU beats Columbia in that regard.

NYU is in the heart of the Village downtown and there is so much happening around the University. The campus itself is nowhere near as impressive as Columbia. On the flip side Columbia is in Upper Manhattan and is surrounded by mainly residential housing. The campus is beautiful but is it a different landscape. Both are great schools it just depends what you are looking to study. NYU appears to be a bit more of a relaxed environment than Columbia which is an IVY League University.

I'd say if you're liberal and like hundreds of places nearby within easy walking distance, go for NYU. There's not endless pleasant strolling up around Columbia, so you might get more studying done up there, if you're the type that just wants to get immersed in campus life. There're some nice parks and views along the river, great for bicycling uptown, but I lived on E. 9th St. for 9 years and I taught at NYU for 7 years, and I loved the variety around therre.
I was 25-35 years old, and from Canal St. to 14th Street all the way across Manhattan from river to river was my living room. I got around on bicycle, it's got a village feel for sure, but you don't always see the same old tired faces every day. It's endless and fantastic. I never lived uptown, but went to visit many times, and couldn't wait to get back to the East Village. So many great restaurants and art everywhere. More ivy and greens up around Columbia. But hey it's only about a 10 minute train ride between the two univ's.
Rents would probably be higher near NYU.

nicely, others have pronounced the US information ranks. different score structures rank them in addition. to help choose between the two, indexed right here are some issues that is incredibly useful to think approximately: Columbia is an Ivy League college however that is instructions is particularly extra costly. it sort of feels to be the case that Columbia is larger in case you ought to pay interest rather on a undeniable section. NYU is vast in case you ought to get a customary objective JD. From what i've got study and heard, the alumni community from Columbia seems to be a sprint extra suitable than NYU's. The alumni community is probable the two as substantial because of the fact the point of training.
