We started as a Christian Nation. But we have decomposed into a politically correct nation with no moral compass.

We are, as you well know, a pluralistic nation, all of us immigrants except the Native Americans, so being tolerant--no, make that being respectful--is an absolute must. Stop being tolerant? Hey, for some groups of people we haven't even started! Until we learn to respect and value each other as equals, and be glad that we have the richness of differences here that some nations don't get (think Islamic fundamentalist governments that suppress everything except their own version of how things are)--until we have respect and value for what we have, we do not have the tolerance we need to flourish as a nation. Ask yourself how well you think those totalitarian governments have done for their citizens. Is THAT what you really want? Not me!

What do you mean "as you all well know." Speak for yourself, child! How is this a Christian nation? Where does it say that? Does it say that in the Constitution? Where? What paragraph? As a Jew, I am appalled and frightened by people who are like you...I mean, if this is a Christian nation, do you believe the U.S. should throw out anyone who isn't Christian? What happens to the Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and other religions and what happens to the atheists and agnostics? What would you do with them?

I think we play at being a Christian Nation. We're really a secular nation. All about worldly things. Greed. Sex. Gluttony. Wrath. Pride. Sloth. Envy.
We love those. We're all about those. Those of us who step aside of those are thought of as strange.
These days it's all about being PC. It's nuts. I followed some media reports of a young man from Uganda ordained to the priesthood here in America. They all refered to him as African American. No. He's just AFRICAN.
PC is nuts. A rose is a rose. Call me a secretary or call me an administrative assistant. It's all the same paycheck.
Add to that, in the US, the last acceptable bigotry is Christian bashing. It's even worse for Catholics because the Protestants will jump right in and support the bashers who were just 5 minutes ago bashing them!

i really hope that was a typo and you meant to say when DID we stop being so tolerant.. (if we ever really were) you're mistaken if you think this country is tolerant in the least
PS
how nice of you to address me directly.. even though nothing you said was relevant to anything that i said, at least not any more than it would have been to anyone else. hmm.. maybe you meant to say that to someone else.. because i didnt mention anything about God, being christian, abortion, minorities, bill of rights, or the constitution.... strange how that worked out. ;)

So simply by seeing a few charts and reading a few articles, you conclude that it is a "christian nation"?
I think you'd better get over yourself and look around to see in whichever country you go in the world, not one religion dominates over another - it is all diverse and the tolerance you speak of is almost non-existent.
As another person said, the better question is - "When will the tolerance begin?"

The majority of America is Christian, and there are many good Christians. But we are also PEOPLE. People aren't exactly so tolerant. Personally, I'm not Christian, but I grew up in a Catholic household. There are many tolerant and intolerant people. Also, you have to remember that the news lies everytime a reporter opens their mouth.

Planning on going back to the days when the tribes of Israel went around killing everything because God said they could have a piece of land?
Perhaps you need to read your bible a bit more carefully.
Matthew 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
Matthew 7:5 "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."
Besides all that, the concept of tolerance is based on judgment. Last time I checked, judgment is beyond our ability, as we let our mere emotions and opinions get in the way of making the correct choices. God on the other hand, has that ability, which is why it is left up to her/him.

This country was founded by various Christian groups specifically for the purpose of allowing EVERYONE who comes to its shores the right and freedom to worship as he/she pleases -- or to choose not to worship at all for that matter! The Puritans came over early enough -- and then prevented anyone who was not a member of their church in good standing from owning property. The persecuted from England became the persecuters!!!!

good question but I don't think we're being tolerant enough look at all the homeless people out on the streets and poeple doing drugs kids 14 years old. Its terrible out there what we need is some action and for people to start doing stuff about it. Parents why are you raising your kids in a way to wanting to grow up to be like this why is there so many people choosing to live this way. We need people to learn more about whats going on we need them to be interested and stand up for themselves and say no to drugs and no to living out the streets I can take care of myself. Thats what we need more bloody tolerance and resolve!

I guess one can only be tolerant of all these behaviors that true believers know are wrong but prayer is always the best.Christ said that before He returns that all sorts of bad things will come to the believers, persecutions, imprisonment, and murder by their brothers. So i ask myself, do i have the faith, the strength, and/or the courage to profess Christ as my savior at that time? Hmmm.
