Believe me, they have teams working on this and they use fault decision trees. It's a prethought out tree wherein you start at the existing fault and based on other faults, you work your way to the cause . Going through it is cumbersome but very ver accurate. NASA does not brainstorm solutions during a mission unless it falls outside of existing procedures.
