I have a Vista preloaded laptop. I want to install XP over Vista. I was told to boot from CD and it would give me an option to reformat and install XP...I don't know how to boot from CD. I can't find the option. Help? I've tried restarting and pressing F1 and I still can't find it.

1 . You set your BIOS to boot from CD first

2. And this is most important, BEFORE you even try, make sure you have a FULL set of XP drivers for your laptop even before touching a XP CD, some manufactures makes it so damn difficult by not supplying, or doesnt not support XP fully, so once XP is on, you are worst off than Vista.

what you need to do is

1. go into the bios (Usually press delete or F1, keep tapping) before the vista boot screen is displayed, and go to the boot menu and check that it boots from the cd before the hard drive if not change that option, and save, but beware dont change anything else or you could ave serious problems.(and remember to note down the boot sequence for later)
2. then when those settings are change insert the xp cd and reboot
3. then before the vista boot screen you will get the message press any key to boot to cd, do that.
4. when this is done your ready to start, go to the standard install not the repair, when you have done that it will ask you if you want to format the partion (hdd) press what ever it tells you to, and wait for it to format the hdd, the rest is straight forward.(make sure you ave the serial key)
5. when xp has successfully installed go back into the bios and change the boot sequence to the original ones.

YOUR DONE!!!!!!!!!

if you hit F1 and go into the bios you should see a startup tab or menu.. you'll need to put the CD-ROM as the first boot device.

p.s. why do you want to install XP over vista?!

It is different on different laptops. Try F1,F10,Tab,and Delete.
Then go to boot order and use the + or - key to move it to the top.
Let me know if you need more help.

Try F12, if that doesn't work try the "delete" key to enter bios and change the boot order.
